Abstract
214,696. Westwood, F., and Westwood, S. C. Jan. 18, 1923. Dynamos, driving.-A cycle-lighting generator of the type in which the machine as a whole is moved to or from the road wheel in order to engage or disengage the frictional driving pulley and underside of the wheel rim is so arranged that it has a radial rising and falling movement in a vertical plane parallel to the road wheel; whereby the danger of contact between the pulley and spokes is avoided. The casing of the machine, which is shown in Figs. 2 and 5 in the running and non-running positions respectively has a lug A containing a pin B, shown in section in Fig. 6, by which it is attached to the bracket plate E on the cycle fork. This is effected by a strap C which surrounds the pin Band is pivoted at G on the enlarged head D of the bracket plate E. This plate has a curved slot K<1> terminating in a circular hole, the slot and hole being in sizes respectively to admit the small and large diameters of a spring-pressed pin or trigger catch M which passes through corresponding holes in the downwardly-extended lugs of the strap C. A spring L bears on the head D and on the machine casing so as to main. tain it normally as shown in Fig. 2 with the pulley in contact with the road wheel rim, and in this position the narrow part of the pin M is in the slot K<1>. When the machine is moved downwards to disengage the drive, as shown in Fig. 5, the larger part of the pin M enters the enlarged' extension of the slot and holds the machine in the non-running position. The Provisional Specification describes an alternative method of mounting the dynamo by means of two bars, one attached to the dynamo casing and the other to the fork, these being pivotally connected.
