Abstract

A sheet retaining means comprising in combination a profiled strip member 1 having a flat land portion 2 extending on either side of a longitudinal axis and two longitudinal slots 3 extending away from a common longitudinal axis towards the same side of the said land portion, each slot portion extending at an angle towards an edge of the said flat land portion; and at least one spring strip member 4 having a central bow 5 portion, and two end portions 6 dimensioned to enter a said longitudinal slot so that when the said central bow portion is depressed by downward pressure applied thereto the said bow portion is held in the said longitudinal slot at an angle by bearing against an adjacent flat land portion. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Sheet retaining means This invention relates to sheet retaining strips into which sheets, eg. record cards or postcards may be inserted and retained for viewing, and furthermore by the attachment of such sheet retaining strips both to upper and lower edges of sheets to be retained a pendant array of sheets may be constructed which array may be lengthened at will.
The invention has particular application for the display of picture post-cards or celebration cards eg. Christmas cards, at point-of-sale or in the home, or for advertising cards for disply in shops or for example in employment agencies.
A feature of a pendant array of sheets formed by utilizing the sheet retaining strips of the invention is that the sheets themselves connect the sheet-retaining strips so that it is possible to display cards of any size in a pendant array, although it is desirable that a vertical array of cards connecting adjacent strips should be of the same width.
As hereinafter described the sheet retaining strips of the invention comprise a strip of profiled section containing spring retaining members which do not fall out, the sheets retained therein may be inserted or removed individually, and retained sheets do not curl along their lengths.
The sheet retaining means according to the invention comprises in combination a profiled strip member having a flat land portion extending on either side of a longitudinal axis and two longitudinal slots extending away from a common longitudinal axis, each slot portion extending at an angle towards an edge of the said flat land portion, and at least one spring strip member having a central bow position and two end portions dimensioned to enter a said longitudinal slot so that when the said central bow position is depressed by downward pressure applied thereto the said bow portion is held in the said longitudinal slot at an angle against an adjacent flat land portion.
One embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which Fig. 1 is an enlarged perspective view of a profiled strip member for use according to the invention, showing a spring strip member in position.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of a spring strip member.
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view showing a sheet held in the sheet retaining means of the invention and Figure 4 is a front view of a pendant array of sheets formed by the sheet retaining means of the invention.
In the drawings, a profiled strip 1 has a longitudinal flat land portion 2 extending on either side of a longitudinal axis and two longitudinal slot portions 3 each extending at an angle towards a said flat land portion 2.
Contained in a slot is a spring strip member 4 having a central bowed portion 5 and two upwardly curved end portions 6.
To assemble the said spring strip member in a slot 3, the spring strip member is loosely placed in the slot and the central bow position 5 manually depressed. The end portions 6 then firmly enter the slot and the bow portion 6 bears against the flat land by virtue of the angle of the slot, and is firmly retained in this position. A sheet 7 may then be placed between an upper retained spring member and the land surface, and a sheet 8 placed between a lower retained spring member and land surface, as shown in Fig. 3.
A pendant array of sheets eg. cards is shown in Fig. 4, wherein a series of cards designated A is held between adjacent sheet retaining strips 9, 10 according to the invention, and a series of larger cards B held between adjacent sheet retaining strips 10, 11 and a further series of small cards C held between adjacent sheet retaining strips 11, 1 2. Strip A is provided with hangers 1 3.
The sheet retaining strips for use according to the invention may be made of metal eg.
extruded aluminium, or from plastics.
1. A sheet retaining means comprising in combination a profiled strip member having a flat land portion extending on either side of a longitudinal axis and two longitudinal slots extending away from a common longitudinal axis, each slot portion extending at an angle towards an edge of the said flat land portion, and at least one spring strip member having a central bow position and two end portions dimensioned to enter a said longitudinal slot so that when the said central bow position is depressed by downward pressure applied thereto the said bow portion is held in the said longitudinal slot at an angle against an adjacent flat land portion.

CLAIMS
