Abstract

214,292. White, A. E., (Computing Tabulating Recording Co.). Dec. 14, 1922. Indicating-mechanism; loose-weight apparatus. -An automatic weighing scale is provided with a reflector controlled bv the movement of the load support, whereby an image of at least a portion of a stationary chart is projected upon a screen. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the invention is applied to a scale of the pendulum weight type. The load is communicated through the rod 3, lever 5, and draw-rod 17 to a beam 18 provided with a pendulum bob 29 and adjustable poises 27, 28. Should the load exceed the normal capacity of the scale, one or more weights 61, Figs. 3 and 20, are lowered on to a holder 26 suspended from the end of the beam 18. The weights are normally carried by brackets 63 projecting from a vertically slidable bar 62, which may be held in any one of two or more positions by a spring catch 67. A mirror 35, Figs. 3 and 4, pivotally mounted at the centre of a fixed arcuate chart 39, reflects an image of a portion of the chart along the axis of an enlarging series of lenses 40, which image, after being reflected by mirrors 41, 42, is projected on to a ground-glass screen 43. The chart 39 is illuminated by a lamp 75, the light from which passes through a condensing lens 76 and is reflected on to the chart by a mirror 77 which pivots with the mirror 35. The mirrors 35, 77 are rocked by a wire 51 passing round a cam 50 and secured at its upper end to an arm 52 extending from the drum-rod 17. The wire 51 is kept taut by a pendulum 56 attached to the cam 50. A second chart 59 adapted to change the initial numeral of each weight indication on the chart 39 is operated by the cam-shaped end 74 of the bar 62 as the capacity of the scale is changed. When more than one weight 61 is provided, Fig. 20, the chart 59 is situated behind the chart 39 and is marked with a number of columns of indications, the appropriate column being viewed through a slot in the chart 39. When the load exceeds the normal capacity of the scale, the end of the beam 18 comes into contact with a spring plunger 402 and an indication of the number of weights 61 required to balance the load is shown on the screen 43. Computing-apparatus. - A computing chart 202, Figs. 15 and 16, marked with a number of columns of indications, each corresponding to a certain price per unit may be slidably mounted behind a plate 200 carrying the chart 39. A rack 205 attached to the chart 202 is engaged by a pinion 206 on a rod 208, the upper end of which is provided with a pointer 210 adapted to indicate on a price per unit scale. An operating knob 209 is provided by means of which the desired column on the chart mav be caused to register with a slot 203 in the plate 200 adjacent the chart 39.
