Abstract
The invention relates to the moulding of a cast concrete article such as a tunnel lining segment in which reinforcement bars (12, 13) are to be cast. In order to locate the reinforcement bars in the required position for the moulding operation of the segment, a clip (10) formed from a hard plastics is moulded into the segment, the clip having jaws (16, 17) which engage a projection or pin (11) extending into the mould from the mould surface to locate the clip in the mould, and also having further jaws (19, 20 and 24, 25) to snap over the reinforcement members (13, 12) whereby the reinforcement is supported at the required locations in the mould. <IMAGE>

SPECIFICATION
Improvements in or relating to reinforcement support devices for use in the casting of reinforced concrete articles
This invention relates to improvements in or relating to reinforcement support devices for use in the casting of reinforced concrete articles.
This invention provides a reinforcement support device for use in supporting reinforcements for a cast concrete article during moulding of the article comprising a clip having a first socket to engage and be supported by a projection extending into the mould intended to form a cavity in the mould and a further socket or sockets to receive and hold reinforcement for the concrete casting lyingadjacent the socket.
The following is a description of some specific embodiments of the invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a reinforcement support device for supporting reinforcement in a cast concrete article during moulding thereof.
The drawings show a reinforcement support device indicated generally by the reference numeral 10 and formed in a hard resilient plastics such as H.D.P.E. for supporting reinforcement in the mould for casting an arcuate concrete tunnel lining segment. The segment is intended to have a cylindrical cavity or socket extending into the segment and for that purpose a pin or projection 11 is mounted on the appropriate wall of the mould to project into the mould cavity. The segment is intended to have an outer cage of reinforce.
ment bars extending near to the outer circumferential periphery of the segment and one of which is indicated at 1 2 and an inner cage of reinforcement bars extending near to the inner circumferential surface of the segment and one of which is indicated at 1 3.
The clip 10 comprises a main generally Lshaped body 14 one limb 1 5 of which has two part cylindrical jaws 1 6, 1 7 formed integrally thereon at spaced locations along the member 1 5. The jaws are intended to embrace between them and support the clip on the projection or pin 11 extending into the mould and to assist in locating the clip on the pin at least one of the jaws 1 7 has an upturned flange 1 8 to guide the jaws apart as the clip is pressed on to the pin.
At the free end of the jaws 1 6 there is a further socket formed by jaws 1 9 and 20 which faces in the direction of the member 1 5 of the clip body 14 to snap over the reinforcement member 1 3 of the inner cage. To assist that action the free end of the jaw 1 9 has an out-turned angled flange 21 and the other jaw 20 has a rounded nose 22.
The other limb 23 of the L-shaped clip body has, at the upper end thereof a pair of resilient jaws 24, 25 facing in the same direction as the jaws 19, 20 to snap over the reinforcement member 1 2 adjacent the outer surface of the arcuate segment. The jaws 24, 25 have outwardly extending inclined flanges 26, 27 at the free ends thereof to assist in opening the jaws over the member 1 2.
The upper end of the member 23 of the Lshaped clip body is also formed with a pair of resilient jaws 29, 29 again formed with outwardly inclined flanges 30, 31 at their free ends in which the base part of a U-shaped reinforcement element 32 is snapped. The element 32 is formed from a rigid steel and one limb 33 engages in a iug 34 formed on the outer side of the jaw 1 6 and the other limb 35 engages in a recess 36 formed in a projecting member 37 on the other side of the socket body.
The socket devices serve to locate accurately top and bottom reinforcement in the mould with respect to any hole former or locating pin employed in the mould particularly during the pouring of the concrete into the mould. The U-shaped reinforcement element also provides some additional strength to the structure around the hole formed in the concrete article.
1. A reinforcement support device for use in supporting reinforcements for a cast concrete article during moulding of the article comprising a clip having a first socket to engage and be supported by a projection extending into the mould intended to form a cavity in the mould and a further socket or sockets to receive and hold reinforcement for the concrete casting lying adjacent the socket.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first socket of the clip comprises a pair of arcuate resilient jaws to embrace and hold the clip on a cylindrical projection extending into the mould to form a cylindrical cavity in the moulded article.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the further socket or sockets comprises a resilient pair of jaws formed on the clip each with a tapered lead in to enable the jaws to be snapped on to a reinforcing member or members to be cast into the article.
4. A device as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the clip is provided with a U-shaped reinforceing element the base of which is received and held in a further socket on the clip and at least one of which is connected to one of the resilient jaws of the first socket for receiving the moulding projection.
5. A reinforcement supporting device for supporting top and bottom reinforcement in a cast concrete article substantially as described with reference to and as illustrated in the drawings.

- **WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **.SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to reinforcement support devices for use in the casting of reinforced concrete articles This invention relates to improvements in or relating to reinforcement support devices for use in the casting of reinforced concrete articles.This invention provides a reinforcement support device for use in supporting reinforcements for a cast concrete article during moulding of the article comprising a clip having a first socket to engage and be supported by a projection extending into the mould intended to form a cavity in the mould and a further socket or sockets to receive and hold reinforcement for the concrete casting lyingadjacent the socket.The following is a description of some specific embodiments of the invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a reinforcement support device for supporting reinforcement in a cast concrete article during moulding thereof.The drawings show a reinforcement support device indicated generally by the reference numeral 10 and formed in a hard resilient plastics such as H.D.P.E. for supporting reinforcement in the mould for casting an arcuate concrete tunnel lining segment. The segment is intended to have a cylindrical cavity or socket extending into the segment and for that purpose a pin or projection 11 is mounted on the appropriate wall of the mould to project into the mould cavity. The segment is intended to have an outer cage of reinforce.ment bars extending near to the outer circumferential periphery of the segment and one of which is indicated at 1 2 and an inner cage of reinforcement bars extending near to the inner circumferential surface of the segment and one of which is indicated at 1 3.The clip 10 comprises a main generally Lshaped body 14 one limb 1 5 of which has two part cylindrical jaws 1 6, 1 7 formed integrally thereon at spaced locations along the member 1 5. The jaws are intended to embrace between them and support the clip on the projection or pin 11 extending into the mould and to assist in locating the clip on the pin at least one of the jaws 1 7 has an upturned flange 1 8 to guide the jaws apart as the clip is pressed on to the pin.At the free end of the jaws 1 6 there is a further socket formed by jaws 1 9 and 20 which faces in the direction of the member 1 5 of the clip body 14 to snap over the reinforcement member 1 3 of the inner cage. To assist that action the free end of the jaw 1 9 has an out-turned angled flange 21 and the other jaw 20 has a rounded nose 22.The other limb 23 of the L-shaped clip body has, at the upper end thereof a pair of resilient jaws 24, 25 facing in the same direction as the jaws 19, 20 to snap over the reinforcement member 1 2 adjacent the outer surface of the arcuate segment. The element 32 is formed from a rigid steel and one limb 33 engages in a iug 34 formed on the outer side of the jaw 1 6 and the other limb 35 engages in a recess 36 formed in a projecting member 37 on the other side of the socket body.The socket devices serve to locate accurately top and bottom reinforcement in the mould with respect to any hole former or locating pin employed in the mould particularly during the pouring of the concrete into the mould. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first socket of the clip comprises a pair of arcuate resilient jaws to embrace and hold the clip on a cylindrical projection extending into the mould to form a cylindrical cavity in the moulded article.3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the further socket or sockets comprises a resilient pair of jaws formed on the clip each with a tapered lead in to enable the jaws to be snapped on to a reinforcing member or members to be cast into the article.4. A device as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the clip is provided with a U-shaped reinforceing element the base of which is received and held in a further socket on the clip and at least one of which is connected to one of the resilient jaws of the first socket for receiving the moulding projection.5. A reinforcement supporting device for supporting top and bottom reinforcement in a cast concrete article substantially as described with reference to and as illustrated in the drawings.1. A reinforcement supporting device for use in supporting reinforcement in a cast concrete article during moulding of the article comprising, a clip having a first socket to engage and be supported by a projection extending into the mould to form a cavity extending into the finished cost article, a plurality of further sockets to receive and hold reinforcement elements for the concrete casting lying adjacent the socket, and reinforcement means mounted on the clip and extending to either side of the first socket and engaging the clip on at least one side of the first socket to provide reinforcement in the cast concrete article to either side of the cavity to be formed by the projection to be located in the first socket during the casting operation.
