Abstract
A dispenser (10) for a stack of sheets (11) comprises a base supporting the stack of sheets and a housing (18) for enclosing the stack of sheets having an aperture (26) at its upper end through which the sheets may be removed from the stack. In order to allow sheets to be dispensed one by one from the top of the stack the housing is mounted on a vertical slideway (not shown) for free vertical sliding movement with respect to the stack and the housing has an inturned flange (25) around its upper end to bear on the top of the stack so that the weight of the housing is supported by the stack and the housing falls progressively as the sheets are removed from the stack one by one. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Dispensers for stacks of sheets
This invention relates to dispensers for stacks of sheets particularly although not exclusively for dispensing notepaper in, for example, telephone kiosks.
The invention provides a dispenser for a stack of sheets comprising a base supporting the stack of sheets, a housing for enclosing the stack of sheets having an aperture at its upper end through which the sheets may be removed from the stack, means to support the housing for free vertical sliding movement with respect to the stack and means at the upper end of the housing to bear on the top of the stack so that the weight of the housing is supported by the stack and the housing falls progressively as the sheets are removed from the stack one by one.
The following is a description of a specific embodi mentofthe invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dispenser for dispensing sheets from a stack of sheets; and
Figure 2 is a similar view to Figure 1 showing parts of the dispenser removed to reveal its construction.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a dispenser indicated generally at 10 containing a stack of rectangular sheets of paper 11 to be dispensed one by one from the top of the dispenser. As best seen in
Figure 2, the dispenser comprises a verticallVex- tending extruded plastics slideway 12 for attachment to a wall or other vertical surface. The slideway comprises a central strip 13 having inwardly facing
U-section channels 14to receive slides as described later.
Towards the lower end of the slideway 12 a bracket 15 is mounted on the central strip of the slideway on which a generally horizontally extending rectangular platform 16 is mounted to receive and support a stack of sheets to be dispensed.
An elongate rectangular plastics housing is mounted on the slideway 13 to enclose the stack of sheets on the support plate to be dispensed. The housing 17 has a front wall 18, side 19 and a rear wall 20. The rear wall 20 has a central vertically extending slit 21 the edges of which are turned outwardly into
U-section slides 22 to engage in the U-section channels 14 on the slideway 12 so that the housing is supported for free verticaal movement in the slideway.
The slit 21 in the rear wall accommodates the bracket 15 supporting the platform 16. At the upper end of the housing 17 there is a top moulding 23 comprising a skirt 24 encircling the outer periphery of the housing and an inturned flange extending around the sides and back of the housing to overlie and bear on the top marginal portion of the stack of sheets 11 so that the weight of the housing is carried by the stack but leaving the main part of the uppermost sheet in the stack exposed so that the sheet can be written on or otherwise marked as required. The upper edge of the forward side of the skirt 24 is cut away to expose the edges of the uppermost sheets in the stack as indicated at 26 so that the top sheet in the stack can readily be removed exposing the next sheet down in the stack and allowing the housing to drop by the thickness of the removed sheet. At the centre of the forward part of theskirt 24 the skirt is formed with a deep recess 27 to further facilitate the removal of sheets from the stack.
Towards the lower end of the forward side 18 of the housing an upstanding catch in the form of a curved spring blade 28 is mounted by rivet 29 qn the inner side of the housing to engage under the platform 16 and prevent the housing from being lifted vertically off the slideway 12. When it is required to remove the housing from the slideway the catch 28 can simply be depressed against the inner side of the housing to pass by the platform 16.
With the housing removed from the slideway a fresh stack of sheets can be loaded on the platform and the housing then slid downwardly over the slideway to enclose the stack.
1. A dispenser for a stack of sheets comprising a base supporting the stack of sheets, a housing for enclosing the stack of sheets having an aperture at its upper end through which the sheets may be removed from the stack, means to support the housing for free vertical sliding movement with respect to the stack and means at the upper end of the housing to bear on the top of the stack so that the weight of the housing is supported by the stack and the housing falls progressively as the sheets are removed from the stack one by one.
2. A dispenser for a stack of sheets as claimed in claim 1 wherein the means at the upper end of the housing to bear on the top of the stack comprise means at the upper end of the housing to bear on a marginal part of the top of the stack to enable the sheet at the top of the stack to be written or otherwise marked on before removal from the housing.
3. A dispenser as claimed in claim 2 wherein the upper end of the housing is open and has an inturned flange extending partway around the housing end to bear on a marginal part of the top of the stack leaving the sheet at the top of the stack exposed within the flange.
4. A dispenser as claimed in claim 3 wherein the housing is rectangular in cross-section and the flange extends around three sides of the upper end of the housing leavingthefourth side open for removal of the top sheet of the stack therefrom.
5. A dispenser as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the means to support the housing for vertical sliding movement comprise a vertical slideway and the housing is provided with a slide engaged in the slideway.
6. A dispenser as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein a platform is mounted on the slideway adjacent the lower end thereof to support a stack of sheets in the housing.
7. A dispenser as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein releasable means are provided for preventing the housing from being disengaged from the support means by upward movement.
