Abstract

A sticker 1, for providing an electronically readable code for a film magazine 5, has the form of a thin backing layer, on one surface of which an electronically readable code is provided by a combination of electrically conductive and insulating parts 2 and 3. An adhesive layer is provided on the other side of the backing layer. The backing layer may be a metal foil or an insulating plastic sheet. In the former case, the code can be provided by adding insulating parts, while in the latter case the code can be provided by adding conductive parts. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Sticker with electronically readable code for film magazine The present invention relates to a sticker bearing an electronically readable code which is adapted for use with a film magazine.
A variety of cameras have been proposed in which the film sensitivity of the film loaded therein is automatically read for exposure calculation or the like. In order to automatically read the film sensitivity, data representative of the sensitivity must be provided at a suitable position on the film magazine.
Recently, film manufacturers have proposed a film magazine on the outer wall of which a data code representative of the film sensitivity is provided. However, most film commercially available have no such data codes. If such a magazine is loaded in a camera having a data reading device, the film sensitivity is not transmitted to the camera.
Sometimes the photographer may wish to take pictures under the conditions that the film sensitivity setting is intentionally changed from the actual sensitivity and the sensitivity is increased for the film development. If in this case a film magazine having a data code is used, the film sensitivity is automatically read, and the film sensitivity cannot be changed in the camera.
An object of the invention is to provide a sticker having an electronically readable code for a film magazine.
According to one aspect of this invention there is provided a sticker for providing an electronically readable code for a film magazine, comprising: a thin backing layer; and an electronically readable code formed by combination of electrically conductive parts and insulating parts to represent a film sensitivity provided on one side of the backing layer, and an adhesive layer on the other side of said backing layer.
According to another aspect of this invention there is provided a sticker for providing an electronically readable code for a film magazine, comprising: a thin conductive backing layer; and a plurality of insulating parts disposed on one side of said backing layer to form therewith an electronically readable code representing a film sensitivity, and an adhesive layer on the other side of the said backing layer.
According to a further aspect of this invention there is provided a sticker for providing an electronically readable code for a film magazine, comprising: a thin backing layer made of an electrically insulating material; and a plurality of conductive parts provided on one side of said backing layer to form therewith an electronically readable code representing a film sensitivity and an adhesive layer on the other side of the backing layer.
This sticker can be placed on a film magazine on which no data code has been provided, and the film magazine can be loaded in a camera having a device for automatically reading the film sensitivity. Furthermore, if the sticker is used with a film magazine having a data code, then the film sensitivity can be changed as required by the photographer.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of a sticker on which an electronically readable code has been provided according to the invention; Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the sticker; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a film magazine to the outer wall of which the sticker has been adhered; and Figures 4 and 5 are cross-sectional side views showing other examples of stickers according to the invention.
Preferred embodiments of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a front view of a sticker on which an electronically readable code has been provided according to the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the sticker. The sticker 1 is made of a thin metal foil or plastic sheet.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, conductive parts 2 and insulating parts 3 are provided on one surface of the sticker 1. As is well known in the art, binary codes representing film sensitivities (such as ISO sensitivities) are determined by the pattern of the conducting parts 2 and the insulating parts 3.
Adhesive or the like is applied to the rear surface of the sticker 1 thus forming an adhesive layer 4.
When the sticker is attached to a predetermined part of an ordinary film magazine 5 as shown in Fig. 3, the ordinary film magazine 5 can be used as a film magazine with an electronically readable code of film sensitivity.
By using a sticker of this type so that the film sensitivity can be selected by the photographer, the film sensitivity of the camera can be set at will.
In the above-described embodiment, the conductive parts 2 and the insulating parts 3 are provided on one surface of the sticker 1.
However, in another embodiment, the sticker 1 may be made of an insulating film 6 as shown in Fig. 4 and the conductive parts 2 provided on one surface of the sticker, or the sticker 1 may be made of a conductive film 7 as shown in Fig. 5 and the insulating parts 3 provided on one surface of the sticker 7. In the case of Fig. 4, the conductive parts 2 should be electrically interconnected.
As is apparent from the above description, an electronically readable code of film sensitivity is provided on a sticker according to the invention. Therefore, if the sticker is used with a film magazine having no electronically readable code of film sensitivity, then the film sensitivity thereof can still be automatically read. Furthermore, if the sticker of the invention is used with a film magazine on which an electronically readable code of film sensitivity has already been provided, the signal tansmitted to the camera can nevertheless be changed at will.
