Abstract

A pencil kit comprises a pencil having a body (20) and collets (21) at each end. Each collet has an internal conical surface (211) for engaging and gripping a tapered portion of a lead (3). The lead has two such portions, so that one is exposed for writing or drawing. A plurality of leads are held in a stand (4). A plunger (22) can be operated to release leads from the collets. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Novel writing kit The present invention relates to a novel writing kit and in particular to one which may selectively be equipped with one of two kinds of leads with different diameters at a time and may be used to write or draw steadily.
The motive to create a novel writing kit is actuated by the desire to overcome the following drawbacks of the known pencils.
The drawbacks of a wooden pencil shown in Fig. 6-A are as follows: 1. The wooden pencil often needs sharpening in order to keep on writing or drawing.
2. It is necessary to prepare a number of wooden pencils if desired to use in different ways.
3. The wooden pencil us unable to be fully utilized due to improper sharpening.
The drawbacks of a pencil (shown in Fig.
6B) which does not need sharpening are as follows: 1. Once any one of the writing elements of the pencil is lost, the pencil can no longer be used.
2. The writing element of the pencil will be slightly distorted during writing or drawing; thud, it is impossible to have good writing or drawing results by the use of this pencil.
The fatal drawback of a mechanical pencil shown in Fig. 6-C is that the collet used to grip the lead is easily damaged.
For the reasons stated above, the inventor of this invention designs a novel writing kit which may eliminates the drawbacks of the known writing implements described above.
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a novel pencil which does not need sharpening.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit which is versatile and economical.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit which may overcome the aforementioned drawbacks of the known writing implements.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit which may be used to write or draw steadily.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit which may still be used even if some of its writing elements are lost.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit which may be equipped with different kinds of writing elements.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a novel writing kit in which accurate sizes of the writing elements and the collets are not required.
The advantages of the present invention are as follows: 1. The component parts of the present invention are simple and easy to be manufactured.
2. The present invention may be simply assembled.
3. The lead is closely engaged with the writing implement of the present invention so that the writng implement of the present invention may be used to write or draw steadily.
4. The present invention may be equipped with leads of different diameters.
Conclusively, the present invention is indeed a valuable and versatile writing kit.
Other objects and a fuller understanding of the present invention may be had by referring to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a novel writing kit according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the novel writing kit according to the present invention; Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the operation of the novel writing kit according to the present invention; Figure 4 is a sectional view of the writing implement of the novel writing kit according to the present invention; Figure 5 shows how to use the writing implement of the novel writing kit according to the present invention; Figure 6-A is a perspective view of a wooden pencil;; Figure 6-B is a sectional view showing a known pencil which does not need sharpening; Figure 6-C is a fragmentary perspective view of a known mechanical pencil.
Referring now to Fig. 1, there is shown a perspective view of a novel writing kit according to the present invention. As shown, the novel writing kit mainly comprises a plurality of leads (3). A writing implement (2) and a stand (4). The leads (3) are inserted into the stand (4) so that the leads (3) will not drop out even if the stand (4) is impacted or overturned. Various kinds of leads may be mounted on the stand (4), thereby enhancing the value of the present invention. Besides, the novel writing kit may be stored in most of the pencil case sold on the market. In short the present invention is convenient to be carried.
Referring to Fig. 2, the writing implement (2) comprises a barrel (20), two conical collets (21) and a push rod (22). The barrel (20) is a hollow tube, two ends of which are equipped with the two conical collets (21). The inside diameter of each of the collets (21) is different from the other one of the collets (21). Each of the collets (21) is provided with a straight hole (212) at one end and a conical hole (211) at the other end. The conical hole (211) is used to closely engage with one of the leads (3), and the straight hole (212) is used for the passage of the push rod (22). The push rod (22) is a hollow rod on which are mounted two rings (23) for limiting the movement of the push rod (22) relative to the barrel (20); hence, the shaft (22) is prevented from getting out of the barrel (20).Each of the leads (3) is provided with two symmetric conical ends so that either end of the leads (3) may be used to write or draw.
Referring to Fig. 3, there is shown the operation of the novel writing kit according to the present invention. The leads (3) are previously inserted into the stand (4). To take out the lead (3) inserted into the stand (4). Just engage one of the collets (21) with one of the leads (3). Since the collet (21) and the lead (3) are engaged with conical surfaces, the lead (3) will be tightly fitted into the collet (21). Any one of the collets (21) may be used to engage with one of the leads (3B. In other words, the writing implement (2) may selectively be equipped with one of two kinds of leads with different diameters at a time. To take out lead (3) from the writing implement (2), just press the push rod (22) to push the lead (3) therein out of the barrel (20).
As shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3, the stand (4) is provided with a plurality of holes (41) for mounting the leads (3). Each of the holes (4 it) is equipped with a number of flexible protuberances which are used to prevent the leads (3) therein from dropping out unintentionally but allow the lead (3) therein to be easily taken out by means of any one of the collets (21).
Referring to Fig. 4, there is shown a sectional view of the writing implement of the novel writing kit according to the present invention. When the lead (3) is fitted into one of the collets (21), the pull rod (22) will be pushed upwards by the lead (3) and will protrude a length equal to that intruded into by the lead (3). Thus only one of the collets (21) is used to engage with one of the leads (3).
Conclusively, it is indubitable that this invention is a valuable and versatile innovation.
Although this invention has been described in its preferred form with a certain degree of particularity, it is understood that the present disclosure has been made only by way of example, and that numerous changes in the details of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
The word "lead" is used in this specification to include other marking compositions than graphite compositions.
