Description
SPECIFICATION
Cockroach Eradicator
The present invention relates to a cockroach eradicator. The conventional means of eradicating
the cockroach includes a method of attracting a cockroach to a paper vessel and capture it with a
sticking agent or a method of spreading a chemical to kill it. By the former method, however, complete
extermination of the cockroach is practically impossible, because the number of cockroaches to be
captured in one vessel is limited. The latter method utilizing a chemical involves a hazard of the
kitchenware, foods and other things being contaminated with the chemical and accordingly it is unfit for use in a family with a suckling baby. Moreover, in both methods the cockroaches captured or killed
have to be disposed of, which is a highly unpleasant bother.
In recent years, new devices which chemically emit an inviting odor and attract vermins such as cockroach to capture them have been developed but they are expensive and restricted in the
installation space; therefore they are not in common use.
The object of the present invention is to provide a cockroach eradicator free from the drawbacks to the conventional method, characterized in that said eradicator can completely exterminate cockroaches without littering their bodies everywhere when said eradicator is simply set and left for a long period.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a cockroach eradicator which can exterminate numerous cockroaches with only a single device set.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a cockroach eradicator which admits the air so well that the cockroachcide placed therein hardly deteriorates and the device remains effective for a long period.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a cockroach eradicator which can keep its high permeability to the air, in whatever manner the vessel is set.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a cockroach eradicator which can effectively exterminate the cockroaches infesting a ship or a vehicle.
The other objects and benefits of the present invention will be apparent from the following account referring to the attached drawings.
Figure 1 is a partially fragmentary oblique view of the present invention in one embodiment.
Figure 2 is an oblique view of the present invention in another embodiment.
Figure 3 is a disassembled oblique view of the present invention.
Figure 4 is a partially fragmentary oblique view of the present invention in still another embodiment.
Figure 5 is an oblique view of the present invention in still another embodiment.
Figure 6 is a partially fragmentary oblique view of the present invention in still another embodiment.
The cockroach eradicator according to the present invention consists of a cockroachcide comprising boric acid and starch and a vessel housing this cockroachcide; and at least on one side of said vessel pore is provided so that cockroaches can reach the cockroachcide through them.
The cockroach eradicator according to the present invention can expel and kill cockroaches. If this device is set in the family kitchen frequented by cockroaches where their food is plenty, in due course of time they will vanish. This effect is traced to the presence of a cockroachcide, but full mechanism of their eradication is not yet revealed. Nevertheless it has been confirmed experimentally that cockroaches eating the cockroachcide in the eradicator of this invention perish or lose the appetite.
Examples of embodying the present invention are to be described referring to the drawings.
In Fig. 1 is illustrated the specific construction of a cockroach eradicator according to the present invention, which consists of a vessel A having a network of pores on the top and bottom sides, legs 2 installed slightly protruding from the top and bottom sides of said vessel on the peripheral walls of said vessel, and a cockroachcide 3 placed within said vessel.
The cockroachcide to be used in the present invention contains boric acid and starch; specifically a mass of boric acid and starch mixed with water and molded to an adequate size and shape is preferable. The starch to be employed for this purpose is desirably potato starch for reason of its better effect. The weight ratio between starch and boric acid is variable in a wide range, but 1:0.5-1:3 is desirable from the standpoint of cockroach eradication.
Said network of pores 1 is provided so that cockroaches can reach the cockroachcide through them. The odor of the cockroachcide may be emitted through these pores too. Therefore the pores may be arranged spirally instead of in a network arrangement. So long as the cockroachcide can be set and cockroaches can reach it, the arrangement of said pores can be arbitrary.
Said pores have only to be arranged at least on one side of the vessel. When they are provided on both the top and the bottom sides of the vessel, however, as illustrated in the above embodiment, the permeability of the vessel improves and in consequence the cockroachcide is less liable to deteriorate and will remain effective for about 6 months.
It goes without saying that the vessel can assume various shapes, such as circular, ellipsoidal, spherical, triangular, rectangular or even polygonal.
Figure 2 illustrates an example of the vessel being rectangular and its whole surface covered with pores 1. In this arrangement of pores, cockroaches can eat the cockroachcide from any position and the effect of their eradication will be enhanced.
The leg 2 is not always necessary, but when such legs are provided slightly jutting over the top and bottom sides of the vessel, the permeability of the vessel is ensured, in whatever manner the vessel is set, namely on whichever side the pores come; and thus cockroaches can reach the cockroachcide through any pores.
Fixtures 6,6' are not always necessary, but extending outward from the vessel wall and equipped with an engaging hole 7,7', they will be convenient for fitting the device using a nail or the like on a vertical wall of the room. Moreover said fixtures 6,6' have an adhesive tape 8 (with a strippable piece of paper) attached on their back, so that they can be bonded to a vertical wall which defies use of a nail.
The cockroach eradicator according to the present invention is assembled as illustrated in Fig. 3.
Namely, the cockroachcide 3 is set in a dish-like vessel A" wherein numerous pores 1' are bored on the bottom side and four legs 2' are installed on the peripheral wall, one end of each leg being set flush with the plane of the wail top and the other end of it slightly protruding from the wall bottom; and then a similar vessel A' is integrated to said vessel A" with the projections 4 of both vessels fitting into the holes 5'.
Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the present invention, wherein the eradicator consists of a short tubular vessel A with numerous pores 1 bored on top and peripheral wall and with its bottom sealed, a cockroachcide 3 to be set in said vessel A, a sticking agent 5 deposited on the surface of the fitting plate 4 of the bottom of said vessel, and a strippable sheet 6 attached over said sticking agent 5; said fitting plate 4 serves as a fixture to an upright object or an oscillating surface.
Unlike the conventional cockroach eradicator which is liable to be displaced, the device according to the present invention is stable even when it is set on an oscillating surface aboard a ship or a vehicle; and it can exhibit its effect even when it is set on an upright object such as the rear side of a switchboard where cockroaches swarm. Thus the device according to the present invention can effectively eradicate cockroaches even where the conventional device cannot be effective.
In the above embodiment of the present invention, numerous pores cover the whole surface of the vessel, allowing cockroaches to reach the cockroachcide from any direction; besides, since the vessel is more permeable, a cockroachcide keeps long and the same cockroachcide can be used for a long period.
In the above embodiment, one side of the vessel is sealed off, but such a sealing is not mandatory. As illustrated in Fig. 5, the vessel may have one side open; and using a flange 9 provided in the opening, it may be fitted on a wall. What is needed is some fixture provided at one side of the vessel.
In the examples of Figs. 4 and 5, the device is so designed that it can be firmly bonded to a wall, but such a design is not mandatory and anything in the prior art, for instance a sucking cup may be employed as means of fixture.
Figure 6 shows another example in which the device is fitted to an oscillating surface or an upright object In this example, a number of rods 7 slightly jutting over the bottom side of the vessel are fitted to the peripheral wall of the vessel A which has a network of pores on the top side; a vessel fixture plate 8 is attached to the tips of said rods; and a strippable sheet 6" is attached via a sticking agent 5" to the surface of said fixture plate.
In the above example said rods 7 slightly protrude from the bottom side of the vessel, leaving a gap between therods and the vessel bottom and thereby improving the permeability of the vessel, which helps the cockroachcide to keep long without deterioration.
Next a test of employing a cockroach eradicator according to the present invention illustrated in
Fig. 1 for eradication of cockroaches is to be illustrated.
The cockroachcide in this test was a pellet molded from 1 kg of boiled potato and 0.3 kg of boric acid well blended. When potato starch is employed, for instance 200 g of potato starch and 300 g of boric acid have only to be well blended with addition of water in such a volume that the blend can be molded into an adequate form.
For the testing, the cockroachcide, i.e., one pellet weighing 20 g was placed in a vessel shown in
Fig. 1 and 1 5 such vessels were distributed in a kitchen frequented by cockroaches; and periodically the number of cockroaches which appeared in the kitchen was counted. The results are summarized in the following table, in which the figures indicate the total numbers of cockroaches witnessed by ali the
members of each family on the designated days, the families taking part in the test being A, B and C.
