Description

SPECIFICATION A radio pen device This invention relates to a radio pen device.
The invention provides a device comprising a pen having a pocket clip and a radio receiver carried by the pocket clip.
By way of example, an embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a device according to the invention, Figure 2 is a front view of the device of Figure 1,and Figure 3 is an exploded view of the device.
A device, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, comprises a pen body 10, and a frame 11 which carries a radio 1 2 and which forms the pocket clip of the pen. In the preferred embodiment, the pen 10 is a ball-point type pen, but the term pen as used herein will be understood to include any other writing implement such as a felt-tip pen, fountain pen, pencil etc. Also, in the preferred embodiment, the pen is of the known kind which incorporates an electronic watch having a display 1 3 with a control button 14.
The radio 12 comprises an antenna chamber 1 5 which houses an antenna bar 23 (shown in Figure 3) for receiving AM band radio signals, a tuning knob 1 6 for selecting radio frequencies, a volume control button 17 and a jack socket 1 8 for connection to an earphone or headphone or the like. The radio 12 is powered by means of batteries 1 9 housed within the body of the radio, and the radio is electrically insulated from the pen body 10.
The antenna chamber 1 5 is rotatably mounted on the frame 11 and is movable between its first home position in which it lies parallel to the clip (shown in full lines in Figure 2) and its second home position where it lies normal to the clip (shown in dotted lines in Figure 2). The antenna chamber 15 can be set and will stay at any intermediate position between these two home positions in order that the best reception of the radio signal can be obtained.
The radio 12, as seen most clearly in Figure 3, has a casing 20 which attaches to the frame 11 and which houses a printed circuit board 21 carrying the usual electronic components 22 for amplifying the radio signals and converting them into audio signals which can be heard by plugging an earphone or the like into the jack socket 18.
The antenna chamber 1 5 has upper and lower covers 1 5a and 1 sub and houses the antenna bar 23 with its coil 24 which is connected to the printed circuit board 21.
1. A device comprising a pen having a pocket clip and a radio receiver carried by the pocket clip.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the radio receiver has an aeriai in the form of an antenna bar, said antenna bar being rotatably mounted on the clip.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the antenna bar is rotatable between a first position in which it lies along the clip and a second position in which it lies generally at right angles to the clip.
4. A device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said radio receiver has a connector for connection to an earphone or the like.
5. A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the pen body houses a watch circuit and carries a time display.
6. A device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
