Abstract

An anchor wire assembly for attachment to a sinker weight has a tapered pin 50 engaging a complementary taper in a bore 51 of sinker weight 52, one end of the pin 50 has an eye 53 for attachment of the line 54 and a detachable flange or clip 55 to secure the weight in position. The other end of the pin 50 has a stem 56 extending forwardly with head 57 into which spring wires 57 and 59 are mounted. The wires are held within slots 60 in the head so that they may be inserted, when bent, by manipulation. The pin 50 with stem 56 comprises an integral plastics moulding. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in anchoring sinker weights for anglers' lines This invention concerns an improved sinker weight anchoring assembly and preferred embodiments herein are improvements the disclosure in GB Specification 1346697. In this patent the configuration of the wires dictates fairly closely the overall form of the weight which may not be best from an aerodynamic or holding point of view. In problem areas where strong tides are present or when angling from boats, it is desirable to have elongated fixed anchor wires protruding from the extremity of the nose of the sinker. In such arrangements revolving wires cannot be accomodated.
It is an object of this invention to provide an anchor wire assembly which may be combined with a weight structure to produce a sinker weight having improved properties wherein the wires may be positioned adjacent or in front of the nose.
According to this invention there is provided an anchor wire assembly for attachment to a sinker weight, the assembly comprising a body with anchor wires pivotably mounted thereon and the body having a projecting part for attachment to a sinker weight. The anchor wires may project back from the nose end of the body where they are pivotally mounted and the projecting part will extend from the other end of the body and rearwardly.
The body may include apertures or channels near the nose end to pivotaly receive springy anchor wires which are retained in a rearwardly extending position by means of detents in the body. The rear end of the body may include a projecting rod or other formation for attachment to the sinker weight which may be casttherearound. In such a construction a user may attach to the assembly a sinker weight suitable to requirements.
The projecting rod will preferably be tapered to engage a complementary tapered bore in a weight.
This invention also embraces a tapered rod forming a plug to enable a selected weight to be attached thereto.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, these illustrate various embodiments of the invention by way of examples.
In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of an anchor wire assembly, Figure 2 shows a second embodiment generally similar to that of Figure 1, Figure 3 shows a version with a pin attached to a weight with anchor wires, Figure 4 shows the pin secured to a sinker weight, Figure 5 shows a further version with a modified spring anchor wire assembly, Figure 6 shows a front view of the assembly of Figure 5, andFigure 7 shows a part section of the wire mounting head.
In Figure 1 of the drawings a plastics body part 1 includes a collar 2 having peripheral notches 3 forming detents each engaged by a limb of a springy metal wire 4 pivotably mounted in the nose end 5 of the body. There are two wires 4 provided, each being retained by bores 6 in the body and mutually at right angles, the wires forming four springy anchors of which the operation is much as described in Patent Specification 2032232.
Instead of bores 6 slots may be provided into which the wires 4 may be pushed, the slots opening into channels which pivotably retain the wires. Such an arrangement obviates the need to bend the wires after insertion through the body, see Figures 5 to 7 as example.
The rear end of the body carries a metal projection 7 with a flanged head 8 about which a sinker weight 9 may be cast or formed or otherwise connected.
Thus, the arrangement provides for the anchor wire assembly to be positioned well forward of the weight which may be of a design selected by the angler.
Figure 2 of the drawings shows a further embodiment. In this arrangement the nose portion 1 and associated wires 4 are the same, but the head 8 and projection 7 now comprise a tapered pin 20 which may be pushed into a complementary tapered bore 21 in a weight 22. The line is attached at the eye 23 and this may include a means to hold the weight against movement off the taper.
Figure 3 shows another arrnagement in which the tapered pin 20 has eyes 23 at each end for attahcment to a line and a seaprate weight 30 which may comprise the device having anchor wires according to this invention or a plain weight. Figure 4 shows a weight 22 fitted to the tapered pin 20. The tapered pin 20 may be of plastics, for example nylon, and may serve to receive a number of different attachments.
In Figures 5 to 7 a version is shown with a tapered pin 50 engaging a complementary taper in a bore 51 of an anchor weight 52, one end of the pin 50 has an eye 53 for attachment of the line 54 and a detachable flange or clip 55 to secure the weight in position.
This arrangement allows various weights to be attached which may be selected according to circumstances.
