Abstract
A pair of scissors or shears which can be easily assembled includes a pair of handles 30 and a pair of bevel-edged blades 4 held together by a pivot pin. Each of pair of handles 30 has a tubular portion 31, disposed on a looped portion 32. A non-cutting end 33 of each of pair of bevel-edged blades 34 has a split 38 and a toothed portion 39 on the lateral wall thereof. When the non- cutting end 33 of each blade 24 is inserted in the tubular portion 31 to assemble the scissors, the split 38 will be wedged by a pointed protrusion 35 situated at the bottom end 36 of the tubular portion 31 and the toothed portion 39 will be forced to fixedly attach the inner wall of the tubular portion 31. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A cutting instrument
The present invention relates to a cutting instrument, such as shears or scissors, particularly relates to a cutting instrument which is manufactured by assembling two separate parts, that is, a pair of blades and a pair of looped handles.
Conventionally, as shown in Figure 1 a looped bandle 10 is made of plastic and includes a tubular portion 11 disposed on the upper wall of looped handle 12 for inserting a non-cutting end 13 of each blades 14. For fixed attachment of non-cutting end 13 to the inner wall of tubular portion 11, an adhesive has to be applied to the conjunctive plane between non-cutting end 13 and the inner wall of tubular portion 11. This extra step of applying the adhesive greatly delays the process of assembling scissors.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a pair of scissors which can be easily assembled without applying any adhesive.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a pair of scissors, in which the blade of the scissors has comparatively good rigidity.
In accordance with the present invention, a cutting instrument comprises, a pair of handles, each including a looped portion and a tubular portion disposed on said looped portion as well as a pair of blade members. The tubular portion includes an open end and a close end formed with said looped portion for insertion of a non-cutting end of the blade member.
The non-cutting end includes a split and a piercing means. At the close end of the tubular portion a pointed protrusion is provided for wedging said split so as to fixedly attach the inner wall of said tubular portion, when said non-cutting end is inserted into said tubular portion.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, each said blade members has a first surface opposing each other, said first surface is formed into concave shape for enhancing the rigidity of said blade member.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, said piercing means is a tooth or a serration provided on the outerwall of said tubular portion.
The presently preferred exemplary embodiment will be described in detail with respect to the following drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic, exploded view of a conventional scissor;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of embodied scissors according to the present invention;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line A-A of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a schematic, exploded view of an embodied scissor according to the present invention; and
Figure 5 is a schematic, exploded view of another embodiment according to the present invention.
Referring now to Figures 2 and 3, there are shown pair of assembled scissors. The scissors include a pair of looped handles 20 and two bevel-edged blade members 24 which are held together by a pivot pin 25. Two opposing first surfaces 26 and 27 of the blade members 24 are separately formed into concave shape so as to enhance the rigidity of the blade members 24.
Now referring to Figure 4, there is shown an embodied scissor. A handle 30 of the scissor includes a looped portion 32 and a tubular portion 31 disposed on the looped portion 32. A pointed protrusion 35 is provided on a close end 36 and oriented towards an open end 37. A blade member 34 includes a non-cutting end 33. Non-cutting end 33 has a longitudinal split 38 and a barb 39. When non-cutting end 33 is inserted in tubular portion 31 to assemble scissors, slit 38 will be wedged by pointed protrusion 35 to force barb 39 extending in lateral direction so as to fixedly attach barb 39 to the inner wall of the tubular portion 31. As shown in
Figure 5, a serrated portion 49 is preferably used for piercing into the inner wall of the tubular portion so as to secure the fixed attachment.
While the invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the disclosed embodiments but on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the appended claims which scope is to be accorded the broadest interpretation so as to emcompass all such modifications and equivalent structures.
1. Cutting instrument comprising:
a pair of handles, each including a looped portion and a tubular portion disposed on said looped portion, in which said tubular portion includes an open end and a close end formed with said looped portion;
a pointed protrusion provided at said close end and a pair of blade members, pivoted each other, each including a non-cutting end, said non-cutting end including a split and a piercing means, thereby said pointed protrusion wedging said split to force said piercing means to fixedly attach the inner wall of said tubular portion, when said non-cutting end is inserted into said tubular portion.
2. A cutting instrument according to claim 1, in which said piercing means is a tooth provided on the outer wall of said tubular portion.
3. A cutting instrument according to claim 1, in which each of said pair of blade members in capable of sliding over each other and has a first surface opposing each other, said first surface being formed into concave shape.
4. A cutting instrument constructed and arranged substantially as hereinafter described with reference to and shown in the accompanying drawings.
