Abstract

A composition consisting of gelatine, glycerine, and formaldehyde is made into transparent sheets which are coated on both sides with a waterproof varnish for use as windowpanes in motor-screens &c., photographic films &c. Gelatine, glycerine and distilled water are heated slowly and skimmed, formaldehyde is added, and the mixture is strained and poured into a mould. The mould is preferably made of, or coated with, beeswax. Bubbles are removed from the liquid sheet and it is then allowed to dry in the mould, when it is removed, coated on both sides with waterproof varnish, and hung up in a frame to dry. The material may be dyed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 3678/98, [Class 121, Starch &c.], and 10372/05, [Class 98, Photography].
