Description

SPECIFICATION Shaving kit The present invention relates to shaving kits for wet-shaving and is particularly concerned to provide a kit which is compact and convenient to use when travelling.
Conventional travelling shaving kits comprise a razor, shaving brush, shaving soap and a bag or holdall with internal fittings for locating the razor, brush and shaving soap in a side by side array inside the bag.
According to the present invention in a first aspect a shaving kit comprises shaving brush, and a housing, the handle ofthe shaving brush having a recess for receiving a safety razor, the arrangement being such thatthe razor is held in the recess when the housing is closed around the brush. The shaving kit may include its own safety razor or it may be adapted for use with a standard disposable safety razor. The recess may comprise a cavity in the base ofthe handle ofthe shaving brush for receiving the head of the razor and a slot or passage extending to the top of the handle for receiving the upper end ofthe handle ofthe razor.
The housing may include a first partwhich is placed overthe bristles ofthe brush and the handle of the razor, and a second partwhich is placed overthe handle ofthe shaving brush and retains the razor in position. The two parts may be cylindrical and may be heldtogetherbyinterengaging screwthreads,a bayonet type connection or a friction fit. The first part ofthe housing may also serve as a beakerforwater or as a shaving mug.
The kit may also include a receptacle for holding shaving soap. The receptacle may conveniently be provided in the second part ofthe housing on the opposite side to that which engage the handle of the shaving brush. A cover may be provided for closing thesoapreceptaclewhen not in use and a shaving mirror may be provided on the inside of the cover.
Alternatively the handle of the shaving brush may be hollow and a stick of shaving soap may be accomodated insidetheshaving brush handle. This feature may also be provided in a shaving kit in which the shaving brush has no recess for receiving a safety razor.
Thus according to the present invention in a second aspect a shaving kit comprises a shaving brush, the handle of which contains a cavity, and a stick of shaving soap accomodated in the cavity in the handle ofthe shaving brush. The kit may also include a housing for enclosing the brush anda razorwhen not in use. Part of the housing may be in the form of a beakerwhich can serve as a shaving mug.
Shaving kits can be constructed in accordance with the invention which is much morecompactthan conventional travelling shaving kits.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described byway of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a vertical cross-section through a first assembled shaving kitinaccordancewiththeinven- tion; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the kit of Fig. 1 with the parts separated; Fig. 3 shows a vertical cross-section through a second shaving kitin accordancewith the invention; Fig. 4 shows a vertical cross-section through a third shaving kit in accordancewiththe invention; Fig. 5 shows a vertical cross-section through a fourth shaving kit in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 6 shows a vertical cross-section through a fifth shaving kit in accordance with the invention.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, a shaving kit 10 comprises a shaving brush 11, a razor 12, a cake of shaving soap 13 and a mirror 14. The components ofthe shaving kit are accomodated in a plastic housing 15.
The shaving brush 11 has a cylindrical handle 16 provided with a recess 17 for receiving the razor 12 when not in use. The recess 17 includes a cavity 18 in the base ofthe handle 16 extending tranversely across its width, for receiving the head 20 ofthe razor, and a vertical slot 19 in the side ofthe handle 16, extending from the underside to the upper side and interesting with the cavity 18 for receiving the upper end of the handle 21 ofthe razor. When not in use the razor is placed in the recess 17, the head of the razor being retained against radial movement out of the cavity 18 by the lands 22 on eith-erside of the slot 19, and the handle 21 extending alongside the bristles 23 of the shaving brush.
The housing 15 is cylindrical and formed in three parts which can be fitted together to form two enclosures. Thefirst and second parts 24 and 26 of the housing 15enclosetheshaving brush and razor, second and third parts 26 and 30 enclose the shaving soap.
The first part 24 is closed at one end and is deep enough to accomodate the bristles 23 ofthe brush and the handle 21 ofthe razor. A rebate 25 is provided in the upper peripheral edge of the base 16 of the brush for abutmentwith the open end of the housing part 24 to position the brush in the housing. The housing part 24 can be used as a shaving mug or beaker.
The second part 26 ofthe housing is open at both ends but has a tranverse partition wall 27 intermediate its ends, dividing the part 26 into two open-ended receptacles 28 and 29. The handle ofthe shaving brush is a close fit in one ofthe receptacles 28. The other receptacle 29 serves as a soap holderand containsthe cake of soap 13.
The third part 30 of the housing serves to cover the soap 13 in the soap holding receptacle 29 when not in use. The mirror 14 is fixed on the inside ofthe cover 30.
The parts of the housing can be secured together by means of sets of interengaging screwthreads 31 and 32 on the adjacent ends of the first and second parts and second and third parts respectively.
When the shaving kit is not being used the components can be stored in the housing 15 as follows. The cover 30 is screwed on to the end of the second part 26 of the housing to close the soap receptacle. The razor 12 is placed in the recess 17 in the shaving brush 11 and then the brush and razor are placed in the first part 24 ofthe housing. The second part26ofthehousing is placed overthe base of the brush and screwed down onto the first part 24 so that the brush is located in the housing by the end ofthe first part engaging the rebate 25 and the razor is located in the recess 17 in the brush by the partition wall 27.
Referring to Fig. 3 this shows a shaving kit 34 which is similar in most respects to the kit 10 of Figs. 1 and 2.
Corresponding parts have been given the same reference numerals. The shape ofthe housing 15 is slightly different in the kit 34: it will be noted particularly thatthe cover 30 is domed-shaped. The base ofthe handle 16 does not have a cavity 18 as in the kit of Figs. 1 and 2 for accomodating the head ofthe razor. Instead, the recessS17 receives only the neck of the razor, the head 20 extends into the space 33 between the base ofthe handle 16 and the partition wall 27 ofthe second part ofthe housing. Otherwise the shaving kits of Figs. 1 and 3 are the same.
The shaving kit 40 of Fig. 4 comprises a shaving brush 41, a razor42, a stick of shaving soap 43, a mirror 44 and a housing 45.
The shaving brush 41 has a cylindrical handle 46 with the bristles 47 of the brush offset to one side of the axis of the handle so that the handle projects more on one side of the brush than the other. A passage 48 extends axiallythrough the handle 46 on the side of the handle that projectsfurtherfrom the bristles. This recess receives the handle 49 ofthe razor 42 when it is not in use.
The handle 46 of the shaving brush has a cylindrical cavity 50 extending up from its base. The axis of the cavity 50 is aligned with the axis of the bristles 47. The stick of shaving soap 43 is accomodated in the cavity 50. A base 51 holdsthe shaving soap and has a portion of reduced diameter at its upper end which is a push fit in the mouth ofthe cavity so thatthe shaving stick is held in the cavity by friction, when not in use.
The handle 46 of the shaving brush 41 also forms the central section of a three-part housing 45 forthe shaving kit. The upper part ofthe housing is formed by a beaker or shaving mug 52 which is a push friction fit on the upper end ofthe handle 46 and elosesthe head ofthe razor 42 and the bnstle≈oof the shaving brush. A cover 53 which formsthethird part of the housing is a push fit on the ≈≈lower end ofthe base and serves to support the lower end of the razor handle 49 and covers the base ofthe shaving stick 43.
The underside ofthe cover 53 carries the shaving mirror 44.
The shaving kit 80 of Fig. 5 comprises a shaving brush 81, a razor 82, a stick of shaving soap 83, a mirror 84 and a housing 85.
The shaving brush has a cylindrical handle 86 which has its axis aligned with the bristles 87 ofthe brush.
The handle 86 is hollow having a cavity 88 extending up from its base. The cavity 88 serves to accomodate the stick of shaving soap 83 when not in use. The shaving soap 83 is held in a cylindrical base 89 which serves as a handle for the soap. The base 89 has an upper partwhich is of reduced diameterand is a push fit in the lower end ofthe handle 86 ofthe shaving brush. The shaving stick is held in the brush handle against accidental displacement by friction, when not in use.
The housing 85 is formed in two parts, a base 90 and a cover 91. The base has a recess 92 in its upper surface. The handle of the shaving brush 81 with the stick of shaving soap 83 stowed in its cavity 88 and the lower end ofthe handle 93 and razor 82 can be wedged side by side in the recess 92 when not in use. The cover 91 can be placed overthe base 90 to enclose the razor and shaving brush. The cover is a push fit overthe base 90 so as to be retained by friction. The cover can be used as a beaker or as a shaving mug.
The shaving mirror84 is attached to the underside of base 90.
Referring now to Fig.6, this shows a shaving kit 100 which is identical to shaving kit 80 of Fig. 5, except for the housing. The razor, shaving brush and shaving stick have therefore been given identical numbers.
The housing 101 ofthe kit 100 informed in two parts 102 and 103. The lower part 103 ofthe housing has an upper portion 104 reduced external diameter and a sloping upper edge 105. The upper part 102 has a lower portion 106 of increased internal diameter to match the diameter and shape ofthe upper end of the part 103 so thatthetwo parts can be push fitted together and are held together by friction.
A mirror 107 is located on the outside of the base of the lower part 103 ofthe housing. When the housing part isturned upside down and stood on its normally upper edge 105the mirror is inclined at an angle that is convenient for use.
The razor 82 and the brush and shaving stick combination 81 and 83 are a loose fit in the housing 101.
It will be appreciated that the shaving kits described above are compact and convenientto use when travelling. The razor is preferably a disposable razor which can be purchased separate from the kit.
Other variations of construction are possible in accordance with the invention. For example, the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2 could be modified by using a bayonet type of connection of a push fit instead ofthe screwthreads 31 and 32 for holdingthe parts ofthe housing together. The mirror 14 could be mounted on the outside ofthe cover 30 instead of the inside, and the housing, instead of being cylindrical, could be made in other shapes. The shaving brush handle could be of any suitable cross-sectional shape ratherthan round. Vents may be provided in the housing part 24 or 26 to provide ventilation forthe shaving brush.
