Description

SPECIFICATION Assembly for holding tiles The present invention relates to a tile holding device for use in a tile preset concrete casting method wherein tiles or tile units are preset on the facing side of a form panel for producing a precast concrete panel or on the inner side of a form panel for casting concrete on a construction site to install the tiles simultaneously with the placing of concrete.
In the tile preset concrete casing method, rubber joint openwork or framework resembling a lattice is used for accommodating the dimensional errors in tiles and holding them in place. In this case, the dimensional errors within the elastic limit of the rubber framework can be accommodated by the framework for holding the tiles, but with a tile having a dimensional error exceeding the elastic limit, the framework is unable to hold the tile due to a clearance between the tile joint portion of the framework and the tile, or it is difficult to fit the tile into the framework. A reduced work efficiency will then result.
The main object of the invention is to overcome the above problem and to provide a tile holding device by which tiles can be held to a form panel reliably even when involving dimensional errors and which assures an efficient tiling operation.
Throughout the specification and the appended claims, the inner-outer relationship is based on Fig. 2; the direction from a form panel toward a tile in the drawing, i.e., the direction toward right in the drawing will be referred to as inward or inner, and the reverse direction as outward or outer.
The present invention provides a tile holding device for use in a tile preset concrete casting method comprising: (a) a plurality of core members to be attached to the inner surface of a form panel as arranged in parallel at a required spacing, (b) a plurality of long joint members made of an elastic material and each having a mount portion to be attached to each of the core members with a small clearance formed between the joint member and the form panel, (c) a plurality of short joint members made of an elastic material and to be arranged at a required spacing for bridging the space between each two adjacent long joint members as attached thereto, and (d) a plurality of tile holding members each provided for each of the short joint members and each comprising an outer engaging portion fittable into the small clearances between the form panel and each two adjacent long joint members for bridging the space therebetween, an inner engaging portion to be disposed inwardly of the short joint member for engaging the inner surfaces of tiles, and a connecting portion extendable through the thickness of the short joint member and engageable with one of the inner and outer engaging portions for interconnecting the pair of engaging portions.
Embodiments of the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a front view showing a tiled wall, Fig. 2 is a view in vertical section showing tiles as held to a form panel with use of a first embodiment of the invention; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the first embodiment is disassembled; Fig. 4 is a view in vertical section corresponding to Fig. 2 and showing a second embodiment in use; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view corresponding to Fig. 3 and showing the second embodiment.
With reference to Figs. 1 to 3 showing a first embodiment of the invention, a vertical form panel 1 for producing a precast concrete panel is marked with the desired pattern on its finishing surface. In accordance with the marking, a plurality of core members 2 made of a plywood or synthetic resin plate and each in the form of a strip having a required thickness are arranged horizontally at a required spacing and fastened to the panel 1 with screws 3 or staples.
A long joint member 4 of soft rubber is provided for each core member 2. The joint member 4 comprises a channel-shaped mount portion 4a with its recessed side facing outward, and a ridge 4b projecting from the center of the width of the mount portion 4a inward to a required height for forming a space for a joint or for grouting. The mount portion 4a covers the core member 2 and is fastened thereto with nails 5 or staples, with a small clearance A formed between the long joint member 4 and the form panel 1.
The space between the adjacent two long joint members 4 is bridged by rectangular tiles T with their rear side facing inward. The tiles T are held between the opposed ridges 4b.
Between each two adjacent tiles T, a short joint member 6 of soft rubber is provided between the adjacent ridges 4b to bridge the space therebetween. The short joint member 6 has a length equal to the distance beween the ridges 4b and a thickness equal to the height of projection of the ridges 4b and is formed with an outward spacing projection 6a projecting from the midportion of its length to a required height. A bore 7 extends through the thickness of the short joint member 6 at the midpoint of its length.
The short joint member 6 is provided with a tile holding member 11 made of synthetic resin and comprising an outer engaging portion 8 in the form of a flat plate, an inner engaging portion 9 in the form of a flat plate, and a connecting portion 10 in the form of a rod for interconnecting these engaging portions. With the present embodiment, the outer engaging portion 8 and the connecting portion 10 are integral to provide a T-shaped member 12, and the inner engaging portion 9 is formed with a hole 1 3 at the midpoint of its length. The T-shaped member 12 is disposed outside the short joint member 6, with its connecting portion 10 inserted inward through the bore 7 of the short joint member 6, and the inner end of the connecting portion 10 is intimately fitted in the hole 13 of the inner engaging portion 9.The outer engaging portion 8 bridges the space between the adjacent two long joint members 4, with its opposite ends fitted in the small clearances A between the form panel 1 and the long joint members 4. The inner engaging portion 9 engages the inner surfaces of the adjacent tiles T to hold them against separation.
In this state, concrete is placed inside the tiles T. After curing, the concrete panel is released from the formwork. The tile holding device of this invention is removed from the tile installed surface except for the inner engaging portions 9. When desired, a grout is applied to the joint portions.
Thus a tiled wall is finished as shown in Fig. 1.
Next, a second embodiment of the invention will be described. With reference to Figs. 4 and 5 showing the second embodiment, a short joint member 26 is a rectangular parallelepiped and has a bore 27 extending through its thickness. In this embodiment, a T-shaped member 32 is used which comprises an inner engaging portion 29 and a connecting portion 30 integral with the portion 29. An outer engaging portion 28 has an inward projection 28a which is formed with a hole 33 extending through its thickness. According to the embodiment, therefore, the T-shaped member 32 and the outer engaging portion 28 provide a tile holding member 31.The T-shaped member 32 is disposed inside the short joint member 26, with the connecting portion 30 inserted outward through the bore 27 of the short joint member 26, and the outer end of the connecting portion 30 is intimately fitted in the hole 33 of the outer engaging portion 29.
While the order in which tiles and joint members are installed is not limited according to the foregoing embodiments, it is usual practice to prepare assemblies each comprising a short joint member 6 or 26 and a tile holding member 11 or 31 and to arrange such assemblies and tiles T alternately between adjacent two long joint members 4. Although the form panel 1 is positioned vertically with the long joint members 4 arranged horizontally on the form panel 1 according to the embodiments described, the tile holding device of the invention is not limited to this arrangement.
When several kinds of joint members are prepared which differ in width and/or height suitable joint members are selectively usable in conformity with the size of tiles to be used to form a tiled finished surface which appears attractive without irregularities in the joint lines. If such joint members different in width and/or height are marked with different colors for indentification, the desired joint members are selectable with ease. This assures efficient installation of tiles.
Because of the foregoing construction, the device of the invention reliably holds tiles to the form panel without the likelihood that tiles will separate off when concrete is placed. Accordingly the device achieves a very high work efficiency without the necessity of using any adhesive for holding the tiles. Since the long joint member of elastic material is attached to the form panel by a core member, the joint member can be positioned in place accurately in a straight form.
