Abstract
212,598. Keet, G. C. E. Oct. 17, 1922. Budding-apparatus.-In a concentrator of the kind wherein pulp is passed over a number of concentrating surfaces arranged in stepwise formation, each concentrating surface is in the form of a tray 40, Fig. IV., short in the direction of flow, having a lip 39, and a feed plate 4 so arranged as to cover nearly the whole of the surface of the tray and to deliver pulp near the inner edge, the drop from one tray to the feed plate of the next being small. The pulp is fed to the top tray but one of the series and this tray is moved to the top where water is supplied to wash off the excess of sand, the concentrates being afterwards removed. In the form shown in Figs. I. and II. the trays are pivoted together in the form of an endless chain mounted on a frame 3; or they may be otherwise connected to a chain or belt. Lateral reciprocation is imparted to the series by connecting a member 14 of the frame to eccentrics 23, 24 driven from a shaft 21, and slow longitudinal movement of the series is effected by ratchet gearing 30, 36 also driven from the shaft 21. Pulp is supplied from a shoot 43, and wash-water from a pipe 20, and the trays carrying the concentrate pass into a tank 44 where the concentrates are collected, the tailings flowing away at the bottom B of the series. In a modified arrangement, the trays are mounted on a cylindrical framework, and means are provided for holding the trays substantially horizontal during their upward movement and in a fixed position relative to the framework during their downward movement and passage through the washing tank. According to the first Provisional Specification, the trays may be shifted by hand.
