Abstract

A device to assist individuals who may have difficulty in sleeping produces the sound of the wave motion of the sea by electronic means.

Description

SPECIFICATION Sleep-e-Sea The Product is to be called Sleep-e-Sea.
The device consists of three integrated circuits.
The first incorporates a white noise generator.
The second a modulator, capable of delivering a sawtooth waveform the time constant of which can be regulated.
The final module is a straight audio output stage incorporating a tone control network feeding a small loudspeaker.
The device is operated on a 9 volt dry battery and is intended to assist insomniacs by delivering at an adjustable level an audio signal very similar to the wave motion of the sea.
The object of the tone controls is to alter the characteristics of this sound from a "surf breaking" to a "storm sequence The device will be housed in a small plastic cabinet with its own loudspeaker very similar to a small transistor radio with the view of being placed near the bedside, or cot in the case of a baby.
An electronic timer to switch off the device after a period may be incorporated, as well as an extension lead in order to feed a personal listening device.

Claims (3)

Claims The product is intended to assist both insomniacs and people with sleep difficulties including children, using exclusively the electronically generated sound "of the sea" or "surf" at a very low audio level. The device consists of electronic components which combined together with a small loudspeaker and exterior earpiece "for personal listening" to generate this sound.
1. Integrated circuits similar to the one used are available to the public, their use in this context, differ from-the normal, this I believe constitutes the invention called "Sleep-e-Sea".
2. The possibility also exists for the product to be incorporated in the circuits of existing domestic transistor radios, thus extending their range as the above invention can be used behind say,a music programme for example.
3. As with domestic radio receivers a timing device to switch off the module can be incorporated, as can a device to switch it on when say a baby stirs, the object of course is to assist the baby's sleep.
