Abstract

A greeting card has a left hand leaf including in one embodiment a pocket of paper or thin card which is adhesively secured to the leaf and which defines an elongate channel into which a tablet of a sweetmeat can be inserted. The material of the pocket may include a stencil-like cut-out defining e.g a numeral or permit viewing of the sweetmeat. Alternatively the sweetmeat may be directly secured to the card e.g. by adhesive. The card may carry customary artistic work and greetings messages.

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to greetings cards This invention relates to improvements in or relating to greetings cards such as those cards customarily given in celebration of birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries and like occasions.
More specifically and in a preferred aspect of this invention, same relates to birthday cards for children, but this is not essentially so.
It is an object of this invention to provide a greetings card wherein same is made more appealing and novel.
Broadly, according to this invention, a greetings card comprises in combination a card carrying printed matter thereon and a sweetmeal item detachably secured to said card.
By sweetmeat as used herein is meant generally sugar confectionery, sweets, liquorice, as well as chocolate. In a preferred embodiment of this invention the sweetmeat is of tabular form and is wrapped, for example in coloured foil, and located within a pocket attached to the card which pocket includes a stencil-like cut-out whereby the foil located in the pocket defines a numeral signifying the child's age. Alternatively, the tabular sweetmeat suitably wrapped may itself be shaped in the form of a numeral and adhesively or otherwise detachably secured to the card. The card may otherwise carry artistic design as is customary in the greetings card art as well as printed messages.
In a further embodiment the sweetmeat may be a rectangular or other shaped tablet, e.g. heart-shaped, and may include thereon a printed or stuck-on numeral signifying, for example, an anniversary.
The sweetmeat item will in most cases need to be hygienically wrapped in suitable packaging material.
Three embodiments according to this invention are illustrated by way of examples only in the accompanying drawings, all of which show birthday cards intended for children.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 shows an embodiment with a sweetmeat received in a pocket, Figure 2 shows an embodiment with a sweetmeat being shaped as a numeral, and Figure 3 shows an embodiment with the sweetmeat of tabular form carrying the numeral printed thereon.
Referring firstly to Fig. 1, this illustrates a birthday card for a child which is intended to be folded in two as is customary, the drawing illustrating the inside leaves of the card. The left hand leaf includes thereon a pocket 1 or paper or thin card card which is adhesively secured to the leaf and which defines an elongate channel into which a tablet 2 of a sweetmeat can be inserted. In this instance the tablet 2 is of chocolate having a rectangular form and it is covered in metallic foil paper. The material of the pocket 1 includes a stencil-like cut-out 3 defining the numeral 7 enabling the metallic foil covering the tablet to be viewed therethrough, thus forming a pleasing image. The tablet may be readily removed from the pocket so formed and the card may carry customary artistic work and greetings messages, such as those illustrated.
Fig. 2 is similar to Fig. 1 but illustrates a further embodiment in which the tablet 2, again covered in metallised foil, has the shape of the numeral 7. This tablet is secured to the card by means of an adhesive enabling same to be detached without difficulty, but nevertheless holding the tablet in place during normal storage and handling.
In Fig. 3 an embodiment is shown comprising a card which is intended to be folded along two fold lines 4 to provide a triple leaf wherein one of the leaves carries a rectangular tablet 2 which may again be of chocolate suitably covered with a decorative foil but wherein the tablet itself carries thereon a numeral 5 which may be printed, or which possibly can be cut-out of the foil covering material.
As well as the decorative foil wrapping around the sweetmeat described, alternative or additional wrapping may be provided, for example by means of a sealed wrapper for hygienic purposes outside or inside the decorative foil.
In a further embodiment of the invention the tablet 2 may adopt other shapes such as a figure representing Father Christmas or Christmas trees or the like as appropriate.
1. A greetings card comprising in combination a card carrying printed matter thereon and a sweetmeat item detachably secured to said card.
2. A greetings card according to claim 1, wherein the sweetmeat is of tabular form and is wrapped in coloured foil and located within a pocket attached to the card which pocket includes a stencil-like cut-out whereby the foil located in the pocket defines a numeral.
3. A greetings card according to claim 1, wherein the sweetmeat suitably wrapped is shaped in the form of a numeral and adhesively or otherwise detachably secured to the card.
4. A greetings card according to claim 1, wherein the sweetmeat is a rectangular or other shaped tablet and includes thereon a printed or stuck-on numeral.
5. A greetings card substantially as described herein with reference to the drawings.
