Abstract

A tracing and sketching outfit comprises a sheet of hard solid clear transparent material, an overlying clear transparent drawing sheet, and a moveable fixable bar 24 containing a sighthole 26, said sheet and said bar held firmly together at a distance from and parallel to each other by a rod 30. The user of this outfit selects a view by looking through the sighthole, and using an appropriate felt pen or such like sketches the view as seen on a clear transparent drawing sheet placed on the hard solid transparent sheet lying between the selected view and the sighthole. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Tracing and sketching outfit Sketching and painting of existing internal and external views is a fascinating art which many crave for but which very few possess.
The object of this invention is to provide means for the majority of young and old alike who are neither born artists nor have any knowledge of perspective geometry, to participate in this fascinating art. Infact, the user of this new outfit has simply to select the view by looking through a moveable fixable eyepiece and then, by using an appropriate felt pen or pencil or brush or such like, trace or sketch the view as he sees it on a clear transparent plastic sheet placed between the existing view and the eyepiece. Although this Outfit could be classified as an educational toy since it can be used by children for drawing and painting, it could also be found useful to architects and draughtsmen as a light-table and for the sketching of localities earmarked for development.
This new Outfit consists mainly in the combination of two equal square or rectangular frames, a slotted bar having an eyepiece at one of its ends, and a rod connecting said bar to said frames.
This Outfit can be manufactured in timber, plastic or metal, or in combination. It can be of any size, although it could be awkward to use if the bar, and hence the eyepiece, is at a distance greater than an arm's length away from the transparent plastic sheet to be drawn upon.
To give a more detailed description of such an Outfit I am making reference to the accompanying drawing showing a preferred embodiment and containing five figures, namely: Figure 1. Axonometric projection of the Outfit.
Figure 2. Top plan of Outfit.
Figure 3. Cross-section on line A-B.
Figure 4. Sectional elevation on line C-D.
Figure 5. Sectional elevation on line E-F.
The Outfit as shown in the above mentioned figures is made up of: (a) a rectangular frame 1, 2, 3, 4, containing a rebate 5 to accommodate a sheet of clear transparent glass 6 or such like material, and an overlying thin sheet of clear transparent plastic 7 which can be drawn upon by appropriate pens or pencils or brushes or such like; (b) a corresponding rectangular frame 8, 9, 10, 11, without rebates, placed on rectangular frame 1, 2, 3, 4, to keep glass sheet 6 and plastic sheet 7 together; (c) threaded bolts 12, 1 3, 14, 1 5, placed at the four corners of the frames and passing through both frames, said bolts being well fixed to rubber suckers 20, 21, 22, 23 at one end and having respective tightening nuts 16, 1 7, 18, 1 9, at the other end; the said rubber suckers are intended to enable the Outfit to be stuck to a window glass pane; (d) a bar 24, having a slot 29, said bar being of uniform thickness throughout but having one end of it of a slightly larger crosssection 25, said end-part 25 having a circular hole to accommodate an eyepiece consisting of a rim 26 and a circular ring 27 threaded on the outside to receive an accommodating threaded ring 28 designed to be tightened against bar 25 to keep said eyepiece firmly in a desired position; (e) a one-piece or telescopic rod 30 with one end firmly fixable by screws 31, 32, 33, perpendicularly to frame member 8, the other end provided with a threaded bolt 34, a washer 35 and a tightening nut 36; said bolt 34 is designed to fit in slot 29, allowing bar 24-25 to slide freely along and around it, said nut 36 and washer 35 designed to keep said bar firmly in any desired position parallel to the frames; the minimum length of said rod 30 not to be less than one-half the longer inside dimension of the frames multiplied by < 3, to ensure that the greatest angle of vision from the eyepiece on to the sheet being drawn upon will not exceed 60 , to obviate a distorted representation of objects lying outside this angle; (f) legs 37 and 40 connected by fastening screws 41 and 42 respectively to frame member 10, and legs 38 and 39 connected by fastening screws 43 and 44 respectively to frame member 3; said legs are intended to keep the frames in a vertical position, and to be weighted if necessaryto keep the Outfit steady while drawing; (g) legs 45 and 48 connected by fastening screws 49 and 50 respectively to frame member 9, and legs 46 and 47 connected by fastening screws 51 and 52 respectively to frame member 2; said legs are intended to keep the frames in a vertical position when resting on their shorter sides; (h) holes 53, 54, 55 in frame member 10, said holes intended to provide for the fixing of rod 30 in an alternate position.
The accuracy of the drawings produced by the use of this Outfit depends on the ridigity of the eyepiece in relation to the frames, and the care taken by its user to ensure that he does not change the position of the Station Point.
