Abstract
211,894. Lengersdorff, N. Feb. 26, 1923, [Convention date]. Gaseous or liquid-fuel furnaces. - A tunnel kiln for burning porcelain, bricks, tiles, lime and the like comprising preliminary heating, burning and cooling zones is adapted to be heated by oppositedy-disposed burners arranged at the sides of the burning- zone and supplied with purified gas from a producer. The burners may be arranged in two tiers, as shown at 10, Fig. 5, and supplied with gas from mains 8 and pipes 9 provided with regulating devices 9<a>, the gas pressure being so adjusted that the flames from opposite burners meet at the centre of the kiln. The gas mains 8 are arranged in the roof of the cooling- zone in ducts or channels 8<a>, Fig. 7, supplied with hot air from recuperators 24 so that the gas is heated partly bv radiation from the interior of the kiln and partly by hot air. Hot air from the cooling-zone passes through lateral ducts 22, Fig. 6, to longitudinal flues 23 and thence through ducts 23<a>, Fig. 5, provided with regulating devices, to the burners 10. Air is supplied to the recuperators 24 from the longitudinal conduit 13 beneath the trucks 12 through flues 24<a> and is led from the recuperator. either through the channel 25, 25<a> in the roof of the kiln to damper-controlled ducts 17, Fig. 4, leading into the preliminary heating zone 15, or to the burners 10. The walls of the cooling-zone are provided with radiators for heating air or water for use elsewhere, such radiators serving to cool the walls of the kilm. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the kiln may be oil fired and the hot air and gases are withdrawn from the preliminary heating-zone through damper-controlled ducts arranged in the side walls of the kiln on each side of the air-inlet ducts 17. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
