Description
SPECIFICATION
Protective cover for shoes
The present invention relates to a protective cover for shoes and particularly to a cover for protecting the heel region of a shoe and for use whilst driving an automobile.
It has been found, particularly with ladies' shoes and especially shoes with an elevated or high heel, that the heel and heel region of the shoe upper comes into contact with the floor of the car which is often dirty or has abrasive grit thereon and the heel region becomes scuffed or dirty or marked as a result of the heel rubbing against the floor surface of the automobile. Such damage or marking is particularly troublesome where light coloured shoes or shoes of a sensitive material are involved and it is an object of the present invention to overcome this problem.
According the present invention there is provided a protective cover for heels of shoes comprising a cover body formed of flexible sheet material having a sleeve or tubular portion insertable over the heel of the shoe so that such engages and extends around the heel; said tubular portion opening-out in its normally upper region into a non-tubular portion which is engageable around the rear end of the shoe upper to protect such whilst in the driving position; retention means being provided to secure the end of the non-tubular sheet material remote from the normally lower end of said tubular portion around the shoe upper in the heel region.
The present invention is intended mainly to be used with ladies' shoes and especially ladies' fashion shoes and the device will be suitably shaped and dimensioned so as to fit closely around the heel and also around the end of the shoe upper in the heel region so as to conform to the particular shape e.g. stilleto or other shape of heel and upper.
The means for securing will preferably be a strip of elastic secured at each end to the normally upper, opposite ends of the non-tubular sheet portion and be stretchable around the ankle of the user.
Alternatively, suitable resilient means may be provided at the upper edge region of the non-tubular region so as to grip around the ankle, e.g. somewhat in the manner of a bicycle clip or other engaging means. Still further, other securing means locatable around the ankle, such as a strap with press-stud members and/or with resilient strap, may be utilised as securing means.
In one embodiment the securing means is in the form of a strip of elastic engageable around the ankle of the user by insertion of the foot through the loop formed by the edge of the non-tubular portion and the strip of elastic. Alternatively securing means such as ties, clips or use of strip with Velcro (R.T.M.) may be secured around the ankle.
The device will preferably be made of fabric material and preferably woven elastic fabric material which will stretch to conform to the shape of the shoe with which the device is being used.
The device will be formed from a sheet of fabric and seamed in the tubular region but which seam will terminate so as to provide said non-tubular portion.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of one design of a protective cover forming a preferred arrangement of the device according to the invention and shown in position on a shoe; and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cover of
Figure 1 on its own.
CLAIMS (Filed on 2 Feb 1983)
1. A protective cover for heels of shoes comprising a cover body formed of flexible sheet material having a sleeve or tubular portion insertable over the heel of the shoe so that such engages and extends around the heel; said tubular portion opening-out in its normally upper region into a non-tubular portion which is engageable around the rear end of the shoe upper to protect such whilst in the driving position; retention means being provided to secure the end of the non-tubular sheet material remote from the normally lower end of said tubular portion around the shoe upper in the heel region.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 which is suitably shaped and dimensioned so as to fit closely around the heel and also around the end of the shoe upper in the heel region so as to conform to the particular shape.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which the means for securing the device is a strip of elastic secured at each end to the normally upper, opposite ends of the non-tubular sheet portion and is stretchable around the ankle of a user.
