Abstract

A signal transfer and processing system for use with a transmission line. The system includes transmission line interface circuitry (A) and signal processing circuitry (100). The processing circuitry has an input (113) for receiving a signal to be processed, and a signal output (117) for providing a processed signal for further use. An input bandpass filter (119, SW7) filters the signal to be processed to selectively limit bandwidth thereof. A primary active frequency control (123) selectively controls the relative level of the signal provided from said primary bandpass filter means (123) for selectively controlling the relative level of signal dynamics within a plurality of different frequency bands thereby to provide a frequency controlled signal. A primary dynamic control circuit (127) dynamically compresses the frequency controlled signal to provide a primarily compressed signal. A secondary active frequency control (135) selectively controls the relative level of the primarily compressed signal within a plurality of different frequency bands to provide a frequency controlled primarily compressed signal. A secondary dynamic control circuit (137) dynamically compresses the last-said signal, supplying a secondarily compressed signal. A feedback circuit (128, 129, 140) interconnected between the primary and secondary dynamic control circuits limits dynamic compression by the primary dynamic control circuit as a time-delayed function of increase in the level of the secondarily compressed signal. An output bandpass filter (152, SW8) filters the secondarily compressed signal to selectively limit its bandwidth. The interface circuitry includes switching circuits (30) for interconnection of signal input and signal output of the signal processing circuitry with the transmission line.

The following corrections were allowed under Section 117 on 20 August 1984:
presses the frequency controlled signal to provide a primarily compressed signal. A secondary active frequency control (135) selectively controls the relative level of the primarily compressed signal within a plurality of different frequency bands to provide a frequency controlled primarily compressed signal. A secondary dynamic control circuit (137) dynamically compresses the lastsaid signal, supplying a secondarily compressed signal. Afeedback circuit (128,129,140) interconnected between the primary and secondary dynamic control circuits limits dynamic compression by the primary control circuit as a time-delayed function of increase in the level of the secondarily compressed signal. An output bandpass filter (152, SW8) filters the secondarily compressed signal to selectively limit its bandwidth. The interface circuitry includes switching circuits (30) for interconnection of signal input and signal output of the signal processing circuitry with the transmission line.
