Abstract

Gift packaging means, in particular for a music tape cassette, comprises a plane sheet of thin card board or rigid paper. The sheet incorporates at least one blank (6, 7) by means of which a box may be folded around a tape cassette. The outer boundary of the or each blank (6, 7) in the sheet is constituted by lines of separation (8) to be loosened manually. In the or each blank pre-formed folding lines (9) are formed. At least the major surfaces (6, 7) of the or each blank are provided with a desired text and/or decoration relating to presentation of a gift. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Gift packaging means The present invention relates to a gift packaging means, especially but not exclusively for use in presenting a music tape cassette as a gift.
At present, gifts are often given in form of an unrecorded or recorded music tape cassette. Each tape cassette is normally accommodated in a box consisting of rigid plastic and may be packaged in a piece of card or paper.
The invention has the object to provide a gift packaging means allowing the value of the present to be increased by a more personal approach relating to the receiver and/or giver.
According to the invention there is provided gift packaging means comprising a plane sheet of thin stiff material having incorporated in it at least one blank by means of which a box may be erected to package a gift, in which the outer boundary of the or each blank in the sheet is constituted at least in part by lines of separation to allow the blank to be separated manually from the rest of the sheet, and in which in the or each blank preformed fold lines are provided to allow easy folding of the blank during erection of the box, the blank including surface areas intended to form faces of the box when erected, at least one said surface area of the blank bearing text and/or decoration relating to presentation of a gift.
Preferably the entire outer boundary of the or each blank in the sheet is constituted by lines of separation allowing the blank to be separated manually from the sheet.
Conveniently the thin stiff material comprises thin cardboard or rigid paper.
Preferably the sheet includes on the surface area outside the blank instructions for erection of and/or use of the box, the surface area of the sheet outside the blank being equal to at least half the surface area of the blank.
The invention has particular use where the blank is shaped to be erected into a rectangular box.
The invention has preferred application where the blank is shaped to be erected into a box of size suitable to house with a convenient close fit a music tape cassette of conventional size when housed in its conventional rigid container.
By way of example, the blank may be shaped to be erected into a rectangular box of length in the range 10.5 to 11.5 cms., width in the range 6.5 to 7.5 cms., and depth in the range 1.25 to 2.25 cms.
Thus, at least in preferred embodiments, at least the portions of the sheet constituting the major surfaces of the box are provided with a desired text and/or decoration so that the folded box has a certain message, for example "Congratulations". All kinds of texts and/or decorations are conceivable, adapted to the type of the cassette, occasion of the present, the receiving or giving person, the time of the year. The number of possible modifications is substantially infinite.
It is the intention that a sheet having the blank or a plurality of blanks in it, is bought by the giver of the cassette and that the giver himself folds the box around the cassette. Clearly the size and shape of the blank can be adapted to a video cassette or other articles such as a box of cigars, a packet of cigarettes etc. However, in particular the invention relates to packaging music cassettes, whether recorded or not.
Preferably, the sheet is in a rectangular shape having along the upper edge a protruding tag on which the kind of text and/or decoration on the blank or blanks is indicated.
Such cards may be arranged behind each other in a show-case, in which the tags are staggered. Then, the buyer can see from the text and/or decoration of the tags which kind of box can and should be chosen.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the drawing, in which there is shown a front view of a gift packaging means embodying the invention.
A sheet of thin card board or slightly rigid paper is defined by straight lines 1,2,3 and 4. From the upper edge 4 a rectangular tag 5 projects.
In the sheet there is a blank (otherwise known as a plano) of which the large, major, surfaces are indicated by 6 and 7.
The solid lines 8 represent separation lines cut through and still fixed in certain points, or perforated lines, by which the blank may be removed manually from the sheet. The dotted lines 9 are ridge lines along which the blank portions may be folded.
After buying the sheet the user removes the blank from the sheet and folds this around the cassette box not shown. Thereby, the portions which should constitute the side and end walls are slipped in each other in a way known for folding boxes and keep each other in position without any glueing operation or the like.
Thus the user obtains a gift presentation package having the desired text and/or decoration.
The type of said text and/or decoration is also indicated on the tag 5 so that the purchaser needs only to observe the tags in buying.
In known way the tags 5 of different sheets are staggered, so that a number of different shapes can be stacked behind each other in a show-case, not known.
The portion of the sheet not being occupied by the blank may bear the instructions for folding and or may be provided with commercial text or other decoration.
It is also conceivable to provide each sheet for example with two blanks, for example beneath each other. Then, the sheet can provide two packages.
As all music tape cassettes are of the same shape and magnitude it is possible for the package to be made suitable therefor.
With video cassettes different types are available, so that different blanks are necessary.
Also for boxes of cigars and packets of cigarettes and the like the package is usable in adapted shape and magnitude.
However, the most important application of the invention is with music tape cassettes.
