Description

SPECIFICATION A cover for a guide mechanism of a sliding window The present invention relates to a cover for a guide mechanism of a sliding window which is arranged at a wall, especially at a side wall of an aircraft, motor vehicle or the like.
In a known sliding window of the aforementioned type (German Offenlegungsschrift 24 28 919), the cover of the guide mechanism includes, as viewed in cross section, two legs assembled gable-mof-like. In order that these legs carry out an effective cover function, the prestress which retains the two legs in the covering position must be relatively large. This may lead to the actuation of the sliding window guided between the legs becoming difficult. Additionally, temperature influences may adversely effect the function of these legs. Therebeyond, the legs are components of the guide mechanism, as a result of which the free constructive design and incorporation thereof into the wall is impaired.
Finally, the manufacture and assembly of the cover of this prior art type construction requires considerable expenditure.
Accordingly, it is the object of the present invention to so construct the cover for a guide mechanism of a sliding window that, coupled with efficient functioning, it can be easily manufactured and represents a structural part to be integrated in a simple manner.
The present invention consists in a cover for a guide mechanism of a sliding window which is arranged at a wall, more particularly a side wall of an aircraft, motor vehicle or the like, wherein the cover is formed by a flexible band extending approximately parallel to the guide mechanism, said band being secured, on the one hand, at the sliding window and coupled, on the other, with a take-up device fixedly attached at the side wall.
The advantages principally achieved with the present invention reside in that the band represents a simple structural part which during opening of the sliding window is automatically rolled up by the take-up mechanism which itself is covered off. This band, which can be easily connected to inner cover parts, ensures that no media or objects can enter into the guide mechanism which could interfere with its operation. Also, the direct transmission of radiating cold which occurs within the area of the metallic frame of the guide mechanism is avoided by the hand. Furthermore, electrical cables can be installed behind the cover arrangement consisting of the band and of the inner cover parts.
In the accompanying drawings:~ Figure 1 is a perspective view on a side wall provided with a sliding window having a covering according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a schematic perspective view of a detail of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a partial perspective view, on an enlarged scale and partly in cross section, showing certain details of the covering and guide mechanism according to the present invention.
Referring now to the Figures a sliding window 1 which is movable in the direction of double arrow A-B (Figure 1), is provided at a side wall 2 of an aircraft, motor vehicle or the like, not illustrated in detail. The sliding window 1 is formed by a frame 3 as well as by a windowpane 4 and cooperates with a guide mechanism 5.(Figure 3).
The guide mechanism 5 is a U-shaped profile rail 6 open toward the sliding window 1, into which project slide elements 7 of the sliding window 1. The rail 6 extends along a ledge or offset 8 of the side wall 2 which includes a fixed clear windowpane 9 and an inner covering 10 (Figure 1).
The guide mechanism 5 is covered by a cover 11 (Figure 3) which is formed by a flexible band 1 2 of plastics material, of fabric or the like. The band 12 which also has a temperature-insulating effect, is secured at the sliding window 1 by means of a fitting 13 (Figures 2 and 3).
Additionally, it is coupled with a take-up mechanism 14 secured at the side wall 2 in such a manner that the shortening of the band 12 caused by the movement of the sliding window 1 in the direction B is automatically compensated for.
The take-up device 14 includes a band roller 15 which cooperates with an element 16 urging the band 12 in the roll-up or wind-up direction C (Figure 2). In the illustrated embodiment, the element 16 is formed by a torsion spring 17, but it is also possible to utilize therefor an electric motor 18 which can be controlled as a function of the movement of the sliding window.
The band roller 15 and the element 16 are mounted on a bracket 19 secured at the side wall 2 by conventional mounting means not shown in detail.
As shown in Figure 1, the take-up mechanism 14 is covered behind an inner cover part 20 and at an angle to a cover area D of the band 12. A deflection fitting 21 (Figure 2) is provided at the right end of the cover area D and the band 12 passes through an opening 22 (Figure 1) in the inner cover part 20.
For accommodating the take-up device 14, the inner cover part 20 is correspondingly constructed and shaped at 23 (Figure 1). As a result of this arrangement and construction, the take-up device 14 can be integrated into an existing side wall. Of course, it is also possible to arrange the take-up device 14 in an extension of the cover area D of the band 12.
According to Figure 3, the band is connected with its longitudinal sides 24 and 25 at further fixed inner cover parts 26 and 27 which cooperate with the band 12 by means of fork-shaped guide sections 28 and 29. An electric cable 30 for nonillustrated functions (light, heating) of the sliding window 1 are installed behind the cover arrangement formed by these parts. The electric cable 30 which is influenced by the movement of the sliding window 1 is deflected at 31 (Figure 1).
