Description

SPECIFICATION An article case incorporating a compass The present invention relates to a case for a watch or the like, which case is provided with a compass.
A compass is manufactured in various forms, e.g. for portable use or for a desk-top use. It is also made for use with another device or instrument, e.g. a thermometer or a watch. But, such a conventional compass with other devices is bulky in size because they are,arranged side by side.
An object of the present invention is to provide a compact case, incorporating a compass, for a watch or the like.
In accordance with the present invention, a case incorporating a self-contained compass is provided which includes an outer case with a cover, an inner case secured to said outer case for containing a watch or similar instrument, a pivot on the bottom of said outer case, a magnetic needle rotatably supported on said pivot in the space between the outer case and the inner case, and a compass card attached to or integral with said magnetic needle.
Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken with reference to the following drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view of one embodiment of this invention: and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line Il-Il of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, an outer case 1 is formed with projections 3 extending radially inwardly. An inner case 2 has an upper flange secured to the projections 3 by screws. A transparent cover 4 of glass or synthetic resin is removably mounted on the upper end of the outer case 1. A pivot 5 is provided in the center of the bottom of the outer case 1. A magnetic needle 7 is rotatably supported on the pivot 5 in the space between the outer case 1 and the inner case 2.
The magnetic needle 7 is integral with a compass card 6. The inner case 2 may be secured to the cover 4.
The magnetic needle is tubular and integral with the compass card in the preferred embodiment. However, it may be in the form of a bar. It may also be separate from the compass card and attached thereto.
The case with the compass according to the present invention provides a complete view of the watch or the like contained in the center thereof.
It is compact and therefore portable in spite of the fact that two different instruments, e.g. a compass and a watch, are contained. It is very convenient for use, e.g. in a car.
Claims
1. A case with a compass comprising an outer case with a transparent cover, an inner case secured to said outer case for containing a watch or similar instrument, a pivot on the bottom of said outer case, a magnetic needle rotatably supported on said pivot in the space between the outer case and the inner case, and a compass card attached to or integral with said magnetic needle.
2. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said inner case is secured to said cover.
3. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said outer case is formed with radial projections to which said inner case is secured.
4. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said magnetic needle is in the form of a cylindrical case and said compass card is annular.
5. A case incorporating a compass, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

SPECIFICATION An article case incorporating a compass The present invention relates to a case for a watch or the like, which case is provided with a compass. A compass is manufactured in various forms, e.g. for portable use or for a desk-top use. It is also made for use with another device or instrument, e.g. a thermometer or a watch. But, such a conventional compass with other devices is bulky in size because they are,arranged side by side. An object of the present invention is to provide a compact case, incorporating a compass, for a watch or the like. In accordance with the present invention, a case incorporating a self-contained compass is provided which includes an outer case with a cover, an inner case secured to said outer case for containing a watch or similar instrument, a pivot on the bottom of said outer case, a magnetic needle rotatably supported on said pivot in the space between the outer case and the inner case, and a compass card attached to or integral with said magnetic needle. Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken with reference to the following drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view of one embodiment of this invention: and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line Il-Il of Fig. 1. Referring to the drawings, an outer case 1 is formed with projections 3 extending radially inwardly. An inner case 2 has an upper flange secured to the projections 3 by screws. A transparent cover 4 of glass or synthetic resin is removably mounted on the upper end of the outer case 1. A pivot 5 is provided in the center of the bottom of the outer case 1. A magnetic needle 7 is rotatably supported on the pivot 5 in the space between the outer case 1 and the inner case 2. The magnetic needle 7 is integral with a compass card 6. The inner case 2 may be secured to the cover 4. The magnetic needle is tubular and integral with the compass card in the preferred embodiment. However, it may be in the form of a bar. It may also be separate from the compass card and attached thereto. The case with the compass according to the present invention provides a complete view of the watch or the like contained in the center thereof. It is compact and therefore portable in spite of the fact that two different instruments, e.g. a compass and a watch, are contained. It is very convenient for use, e.g. in a car. Claims
1. A case with a compass comprising an outer case with a transparent cover, an inner case secured to said outer case for containing a watch or similar instrument, a pivot on the bottom of said outer case, a magnetic needle rotatably supported on said pivot in the space between the outer case and the inner case, and a compass card attached to or integral with said magnetic needle.
2. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said inner case is secured to said cover.
3. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said outer case is formed with radial projections to which said inner case is secured.
4. The case as claimed in claim 1 wherein said magnetic needle is in the form of a cylindrical case and said compass card is annular.
5. A case incorporating a compass, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
