Abstract
A collapsible device for the division of a vehicle booth compartment into a number of separate storage compartments has vertical dividers 1 and 2 placed lengthways and transversely in the boot compartment which are slotted into each other at 7 and supported by bobbins. The device is positioned in the motor vehicle on the boot compartment floor and located by the ends of the divider sections abutting against the inside of the boot compartment walls. The divider sections 1 and 2 are approximately half the height of a motor vehicle boot compartment 10 therefore there is sufficient height for the divider sections 1 to be lifted up thus permitting the device to be collapsed or removed from the motor vehicle boot. Refitting would be in the reverse sequence. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Collapsible car boot tidy
The Collapsible Car Boot Tidy is a device to provide easy portablility of various items in stowage compartments in the boot of an automobile.
It will in particular be useful to prevent parcels and foodstuffs collected from supermarkets rolling about in the boot, for the stowage of tools and equipment, weekend gear and picnic baskets, travellers samples, etc. The Car Boot Tidy is twenty centimetres high, this will thereby allow larger parcels and small suitcases to be placed and carried on top of the Tidy. The device consists of a simple divider which can be fitted to the boot of almost any motor vehicle, and can be collapsed in seconds. It consists of three separate designed parts as shown in the drawing, as follows:
Fig. 1 Vertical divider (length ways of boot).
Fig. 2 Horizontal divider (across the boot).
Fig. 7 Support bobbin (two parts as Figs. 4 and 5).
Figs. 1 and 2 can be manufactured from wood, plastic or hardboard but in production it is intended to use tempered hardboard which is melamine plastic coated on both sides, total thickness approx 6 mm. Width twenty centimetres, and to be manufactured in various lengths to allow the divider to be cut to the required length to fit the width and depth of a particular car boot.
Fig. 7 consists of two parts Figs. 4 and 5 which will be manufactured from hard plastic, it is designed to simply clip together through the holes provided in the dividers, the small protuberances
Fig. 4B inside Fig. 4 lock into the annular groove
Fig. 5B in the stem of Fig. 5. Each divider is slotted one into the other by the slots provided,
Fig. 6 i.e. the bottom of Fig. 2 will slot into the top of Fig. 1. The width of the slot allows a sliding fit of one divider into the other. Each divider being slotted to half its width will require supporting, this support is provided by the support bobbins
Fig. 7 as shown full scale, and in position in Figs.
1 and 2, thereby each slotted portion of both dividers is fully supported at the top and bottom edges.
The Car Boot Tidy will rest on the floor of the car boot Fig. 9 and will be held in position by the car boot walls Fig. 3. The Car Boot Tidy is a twenty centimetres high, approx half the height of a car boot Fig. 8 there is therefore sufficient height in the boot for the Car Boot Tidy to be collapsed by lifting up the dividers Fig. 2 and thereby collapsing the complete assembly onto the car boot floor, or if desired, it can easily be completely removed from the car boot by, first lifting out the dividers Fig. 2 followed by dividers
Fig. 1. Refitting would be in the reverse order.
Claims (filed 3/3/82)
1. a collapsible device for the division of the boot of a motor vehicle into a number of separate compartments for the carriage or storage of various articles, comprising of vertical divider sections fitted lengthways and transversely across the floor of the boot.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 in which vertical divider sections are slotted into each other by means of slots provided in each divider section.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which each vertical divider section is supported at the slotted edge by means of bobbins located through and on both sides of the intercrossing unslotted faces of each divider section adjacent to the slot in each divider section. So that when the device is assembled the slotted portion of each section is supported on both sides of each slot and on each face of each divider section at both the top and bottom faces.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which the ends of the divider sections locate against the inside faces of the front, rear, left and right walls of the boot compartment of a motor vehicle.
5. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 4 in which the number and spacing of the divider sections can be varied so as to suit the widest range of motor vehicle boot sizes and individual compartment divisions.
6. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 5 in which the divider sections of the device may be of any length and height as may be appropriate to comply with the internal dimensions of the boot compartment of any motor vehicle.
7. A collapsible device for the division of the boot compartment of a motor vehicle substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
8. A collapsible device as claimed in any preceeding claim which provides a number of separate compartments within a motor vehicle boot compartment.

New or amended claims: 1. A collapsible structure for the partition of the boot of a motor vehicle into a number of separate compartments for the carriage or stowage of various articles, comprising of vertical divider sections, made from any rigid material or substance, fitted lengthways and transversely across the floor of the boot and slotted at right angles into each other by means of slots provided in each divider section and characterised in that each divider section is supported at the slotted edge by means of bobbins made from any suitable hard material or substance located through and on both sides of the intercrossing unslotted faces of each divider section, so that when the structure is assembled the slotted portion of each section is supported on both sides of each slot and on each face of each divider section at both the top and bottom faces by the support bobbins.
2. A structure as claimed in claim 1 in which
