Abstract

A terminal comprises an elongate body (1), one end of which is provided with a portion (3) from which projects tooth pairs (6). The portion (3) adjoins a lead fixing clamp (8) integral with the elongate body (at hinge (7)) and the other end of the body housing blade contacts (15). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Electrical terminal provided with a built-in lead fixing element The present invention relates to an electrical terminal provided with a built-in fairlead fixing element.
As it is well known, household appliances have to be provided with a supply cord or cable, provided with a suitable piug. That supply cord, generally of the three pin type, has to be obviously affixed, with the ends of its wires, to suitable terminals or posts, as located inside the casing or body of the househoid electrical appliance.
This affixing operation is quite difficult to carry out since, on the assembly line, it is to be carried out in the inside of the appliance.
Moreover the cord thus fixed is susceptible to damage easily, because of possible pulling forces acting on the outer portion.
Accordingly, the task of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks, by providing an electrical terminal or post which is effective to allow for the cord to be preassembled outside of the household electrical appliance.
The invention seeks to provide an electrical terminal or post which is really effective to hold the cord, notwithstanding possible pulling forces acting thereon.
The invention also seeks to provide such an electrical terminal or post which may be produced in a single piece by moulding a suitable plastics material.
The material invention provides such an electrical terminal which is provided with coupling means effective to allow for said terminal to be easily and firmly coupled to the casing of the appliance.
According to the present invention there is provided an electrical terminal comprising an elongated body, provided with an annular end portion including a shaped portion on which projecting cantilevered tooth pairs are formed, said shaped portion adjoining a lead fixing element integral with said elongated body, the other end thereof being so designed as to be capable of housing blade contacts.
The invention will now be described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating an electrical terminal according to the present invention, with the lead fixing element thereof upwardly tilted; Fig. 2 illustrates the profile of the hole formed through the casing of the household electrical appliance to be supplied and effective to hold said terminal, and Fig. 3 is a top view illustrating the subject electrical terminal or post as firmly coupled to the casing of the appliance.
With reference to the numbers of the figures of the accompanying drawing, the electrical terminal or post according to the present invention comprises a single block 1, of substantially elongated shape provided, at one end thereof, with a first annular portion 2, of round cross-section adjoining a second annular portion 3, having a suitable contour.
More specificaily, that second annular portion is provided with a substantially rectangular cross-section, with two rectilinear opposite sides 4 and with the other two sides 5 of convex shape.
At the latter sides, moreover, there are formed, cantilever-wise, corresponding tooth pairs 6, which are shaped and project slightly.
To the mentioned elongated body, in particular, there is joined, by means of strip lugs 7, a substantially semicylindrical element 8, provided with a middle notch 9 and two through holes 10, at the ends thereof.
Said elongated body is provided, in turn, at a related position to that of said through holes, with a pin 11 and a through hole 12 and, at the opposite end to that thereon there are formed the mentioned annular portions, with a guiding rectilinear tab 13 and two side small walls 14 defining corresponding seats effective to house blade contacts pair 15.
In actual practice, by using the electrical terminal according to the present invention the supply cord of the appliance 17 may be preassembled on the terminal, outside of the appliance, by easily affixing the wire ends to said blade contacts 15.
Moreover, by locking the element 8 on the body 1, by means of a screw 18, the cord is firmly anchored to said terminal.
Then the latter is coupled to the casing 19 of the appliance, through a suitable hole 20 formed therein and substantially reproducing the contour of the annular portion 3, which latter will be locked to said casing due to the biassing provided by the tooth pairs 6 on the hole edge.
It should moreover be pointed out that the mentioned hole is preferably formed in such a way as to present, at the mentioned annular portion 3, a height of 23 mm and a maximum width of 26 mm.
From the above disclosure and the figures of the accompanying drawing the great functionality and use facility characterizing the electrical terminal or post according to the invention will be self evident.
1. An electrical terminal, comprising an elongated body, provided with an annular end portion including a shaped portion on which projecting cantilevered tooth pairs are formed, said shaped portion adjoining a lead fixing element integral with said elongated body, the other end thereof being so designed as to be capable of housing blade contacts.
2. An electrical terminal, as claimed in claim 1 in which said annular end portion comprises a first round cross-section portion adjoining a rectangular cross-section portion have two rectilinear opposite sides and the other two sides convex, said tooth pairs being formed at said convex sides.
3. An electrical terminal, as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which said element for fixing the lead consists of a substantially semicylindrical structure, jointed to said elongated body by means of strip lugs and provided with a middle notch and two through holes at the ends thereof.
4. An electrical terminal, as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 in which said elongated body is provided, at a position related to that of said through holes, with
