Abstract
In decatizing textiles wound as a coil on winding cylinder (3), the cylinder is pre-heated with steam prior to passing steam through the coil. Pre-heating is performed by a plurality of tubes (18) which are open at one or both ends (19) and extend along the inside of the entire axial length of the perforated wall (15) on which the coil is wound. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Decatizing process and apparatus for
performing same
The invention relates to a decatizing process in which steam is passed in a decatizing boiler through a winding cylinder as well as through a
coil of textile web material carried thereby, either
radially inwardly from the outside and/or outwardly from the inside.
It also relates to an apparatus for performing such a process, comprising a decatizing boiler
provided with regulating apparatus for introducing
and withdrawing steam, and a winding cylinder which is provided with a perforated wall for carrying a coil of material and can be inserted in the decatizing boiler and of which the interior can be connected to a steam conduit by way of a connection.
In hitherto known decatizing processes and known apparatuses therefor, there is considerable condensation of the steam, especially on commencement of the decatizing process and particularly in the region of the perforated wall of the winding cylinder because this perforated wall initially has a much lower temperature than the steam that is passed through. This condensation leads to considerable amounts of undesired liquid in the inner convolutions of the coil. Such difficulties arise particularly when the steam flows from the decatizing boiler through the coil into the winding cylinder. In that, case condensation will occur on the outside of the winding cylinder and thus in the immediate vicinity of the textile material to be treated.
On the other hand, if in the known processes and apparatuses the steam is passed outwardly from the winding cylinder through the coil of material, condensation will primarily occur on the inside of the perforated wall of this cylinder.
Various measures have already been proposed to dispose of the condensate from the cylinder, e.g.
by an inclined arrangement, and to prevent the condensate from leaving through the perforated wall into the coil. For this purpose, small inwardly projecting tubes are placed on the inside of the individual perforations of the perforated wall to counteract the outflow of condensate through the perforations. However, such expediencies are very expensive and also increase the mass to be heated on commencement of the process, so that an increased occurrence of condensate is the basic consequence.
It is the problem of the present invention to provide a decatizing process in which the occurrence of condensate near the winding cylinder, particularly in the region of the perforated wall of this winding cylinder, is considerably reduced if not completely eliminated. It is also a problem of the present invention to provide an apparatus suitable for performing this process.
To solve the set problem, the invention provides in a decatizing process of the aforementioned kind that at least parts of the winding cylinder are heated by steam prior to passing steam through
the coil. This heating leads to a reduction if not elimination of the temperature difference between the parts of the winding cylinder in question and the steam used for the decatization. In this way condensation of this steam is considerably reduced or eliminated.
According to a further suggestion of the invention, the process can be conducted so that, for at least partly heating the winding cylinder, steam is introduced in the decatizing boiler, brought into thermally conductive contact particularly with the wall of the coil carrier, and then withdrawn from the boiler without passing through the coil.
According to a further suggestion of the invention, the process can be conducted so that steam is successively introduced in the decatizing boiler and withdrawn therefrom several times. In this way, a certain pumping effect can be achieved which ensures that the steam used for heating can heat all the important parts of the winding cylinder.
Finally, the process of the invention can be carried out so that the steam used for heating the winding cylinder has substantially the same temperature as the steam used for the subsequent decatizing process. In this way, one readily obtains heating or preheating of the parts of the winding cylinder to the temperature necessary for avoiding condensation during decatization.
To solve the set problem, the invention proposes in an apparatus of the aforementioned kind that a number of tubes open at one or both ends is disposed on the inside of the perforated wall, which tubes extend over the entire axial length of the perforated wall. These tubes thus communicate with the interior of the decatizing boiler so that steam introduced in the decatizing boiler will also enter these tubes. Condensation initially occurring in the tubes leads to sucking in of further steam and thus to the desired heating.
The resulting condensate can be withdrawn to one side by slightly inclining the axis of the winding cylinder.
Further, the invention provides for the tubes to extend parallel to the axis of the winding cylinder.
This leads to a particularly simple construction.
Further, the invention provides for the tubes to be supported on two head plates arranged at both ends of the winding cylinder and for the tubes to be connected to the perforated wall to lie against the inside thereof. In this way, one obtains good thermal transmission between the steam in the tubes and the perforated wall of the winding cylinder. In addition, the tubes also serve as a support for the perforated wall connected thereto so that the perforated wall can therefore be relatively thin. The outer diameter of the head plates is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the perforated wall so that the head plates define a drip edge.
The invention also provides for the tubes to be mounted at their ends in bores of the two head plates.
Further, the invention provides that at least one supporting plate for supporting the tubes can be provided between the two head plates. In this way one can achieve an adequate stability for the entire winding cylinder.
Finally, the invention provides that the connection connecting the interior of the winding cylinder to a steam conduit can be of doublewalled construction and that the space defined by the two walls can communicate with the interior of the decatizing boiler through apertures in the outer wall. In this way one also obtains preheating of the steam connection so that practically no condensate will occur in this zone of the winding cylinder during the decatizing process.
The process of the invention and the apparatus for performing it will now be described with reference to drawings of one example. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side elevation of a decatizing boiler with decatizing cylinder and coil of material;
Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1 apparatus;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a winding cylinder according to the invention shown partly in axial section;
Fig. 4 is a section of the winding cylinder on the line A-B of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a detailed view of the outside of the perforated wall of the winding cylinder.
The decatizing apparatus shown in the Figures comprises a decatizing boiler 1 into which a winding cylinder 3 provided with a coil 1 of textile web material can be introduced. The interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 can be hermetically sealed after introduction of the winding cylinder 3 and the coil 2. A steam distributing tube 5 disposed in the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 is preceded by suitable regulating apparatuses 6. The decatizing boiler 1 is connected by a connection 7 to a steam conduit 8 containing a further
regulating apparatus 9.
The winding cylinder 3 comprises a cylindrical
perforated wall 1 5 which is provided with
perforations 1 6 in the zone carrying a coil 2. Tubes
18 lying on the inside 1 7 of the perforated wall 1 5
are connected to the perforated wall 1 5. These
tubes 1 8 axtend parallel to each other over the
entire axial length of the perforated wall 1 5. They
are open at both ends 1 9 to communicate with
the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1.
Near both ends 19, the tubes 1 8 are mounted
in bores 20 of hard plates 21 and project slightly
outwardly through the bores 20. A plurality of
supporting plates 23 provided in the interior 22 of
the winding cylinder 3 parallel to the two head
plates 21 have a smaller diameter than that of the
interior 22 defined by the perforated wall 1 5. At
their periphery, the supporting plates 23 carry
arcuate recesses 24 in which the tubes 1 8 are
supported. The supporting plates 23 have a
central aperture 25.
The stem connection 7 is passed through a
head plate 21 and has a steam aperture 30 which
opens into the interior 22 of the winding cylinder
3. The connection 7 has an inner wall 31 which bounds the steam aperture 30, and an outer wall 32. There is therefore defined an intermediate space 33 which communicates with the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 through apertures 34 in the outer wall 32.
If, now, a winding cylinder 3 with a coil 2 is introduced in the decatizing boiler 1 and the latter is closed, the connection 7 will be in communication with the steam conduit 8.
According to the process of the invention, steam is first introduced in the decatizing boiler 1 through the regulating apparatus 6 and the steam distributing tube 5. This steam fills the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 and enters the tubes 1 8 from both ends 1 9. The steam that is thereby initially condensed attracts further steam so that heating of the tubes 18 and the perforated wall 15 connected thereto takes place. At the same time, steam passes through the apertures 34 into the intermediate space 33 of the steam connection 7 and also heats the latter. Condensate occurring during this preheating is led away to a condensate collecting channel (not shown) by slightly inclining the axis of the winding cylinder 3.The steam can subsequently be again withdrawn from the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 , for example through the tube 5 or some other connection. It is possible to repeat this step for heating particularly the winding cylinder 3 several times.
Steam is used for this at the same temperature as the steam used for subsequent decatization.
When adequate heating of the important parts of the winding cylinder 3 has taken place, the actual decatizing process is started, for which purpose steam is again introduced in the decatizing boiler 1 by way of the regulating apparatus 6 and the steam distributing tube 5 but this steam will now enter the interior 22 of the winding cylinder 3 through the coil 2, the perforated wall 1 5 of the winding cylinder 3 and between the tubes 1 8. From here, the steam passes through the steam connection 7, the conduit 8 and the regulating apparatus 9 out of the apparatus again. The actual decatizing process can also be conducted so that the steam is first passed through the conduit 8 and the steam connection 7 into the interior 22 of the winding cylinder 3 and then between the tubes 1 8 through the perforated wall 1 5 and through the coil 2 into the interior 4 of the decatizing boiler 1 from which it is then withdrawn.
