Abstract
211,147. May, H. Feb. 8, 1923, [Convention date]. Colour photography. -Apparatus for taking pictures in natural colours comprises an objective working in conjunction with pyramoidal separating and defecting means to produce a. set of coplanar component colour images. The apparatus may also be used for projecting in superimposition a set of such images. The apparatus shown comprises an objective a, a compound separating prism, x<1>, and a compound deflecting prism x<11>. The system x<1> comprises a basic prism 1 with its refracting edge 5 and base 2 at right angles to the axis A of the objective, its base 2 facing the objective. Mounted on the sides of this prism are prisms 10, 11, the refracting edges 15, 16 of which lie in a plane containing the axis A and at right angles to the edge 5 of the basic prism 1. The faces of the prisms 10, 11 may be extended to intersect in edges 17, 18 lying in a plans containing the axis A and the edge 5. Colour filters are arranged on these faces, or for tri-colour work three faces carry colour filters and the fourth an opaque layer or neutral grey filter. The system x<11> has its plane base parallel to the base 2, and its inclined faces parallel to the corresponding faces of the system x<1>. The edges 35 - - 38 meet on the axis A and are parallel to the edges 15 - - 18 of the system. The pencil of light emerging from the objective a is split by the system x<1> into four divergent pencils which, after passing through the colour filters, are deflected by the system x<11> to form contiguous component colour images on a photographic film b at right angles to the axis A. Conversely, the component colour images on a diapositive printed from the film b after development may be projected in the reverse direction through the system to produce an image in natural colours on a screen. The positions of the objective a and film b may be reversed.
