Abstract

In a combination of a bag 10 with a hanger, having a bar H2 and a hook H1, the bag has opposed sides B1,F1 of flexible sheet material of which the side B1 has a top closing portion T2 provided with a slot S1 of a size arranged only to receive the hook H1 and to allow it to pass through the slot and extend out of and clear of the bag, the bar H2 of the hanger being fixed at the top edge of the other side F1. The bag is preferably made of a transparent plastics material. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hanging bag This invention relates to the packaging and display of merchandise in a hanging bag of plastics material.
Bags of plastic material are known for packaging merchandise such as textile goods, and are commonly provided with a conventional coathanger for display purposes in a retail shop or store. A known type of bag is formed from a flat tubular length of plastics material having two overlying sides (for convenience referred to as front and rear sides) and a gusset joining each edge of the front side to the rear side, each gusset lying in two layers between the front side and the rear side and having a central fold connecting the two layers lying inwardly of the said edges.
Usually the bags are manufactured with a transverse bottom closing seal, and a package is formed by inserting the merchandise and then folding the open top edge of the bag round the bar of the hanger and fastening it down, for example with adhesive tape, to hold the hanger captive. This procedure is time consuming and each package must be provided with a hanger by the packer, which hanger remains attached to the package when it is sold to the eventual customer.
In addition, the package is quite often not accurately located on the hanger, so that it tends to hang tilted when displayed.
According to the present invention there is provided a bag in combination with a hanger having a bar and a hook, said bag having opposed sides of flexible sheet material of which one side has a top closing portion provided with a slot of a size arranged only to receive the hook part of the said hanger and to allow it to pass through said slot and extend out of and clear of the said bag, the bar of said hanger being fixed at and close to the top edge of that side opposed to said one side having the top closing portion.
One bag of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a view in oblique perspective of a bag open and, Figure 2 is a view of the same bag closed and hanging from a support, and Figure 3 is a schematic not to scale showing the one piece of plastics sheeting from which the bag of Figures 1 and 2 is made by welding along the seams.
A rectangular bag shown generally at 10 has two opposed sides F1, B, often referred to as front and back, made from one piece of transparent flexible sheet material such as plastics material that is transparent folded at F2 1' 2 e open top T is and welded along edges E" E The open top 1 closed by a top closing portion T2 an extension to side B, and having a slot S, of a size arranged only to receive a hook H, of a hanger having a bar H2 fixed to the top edge B3 of one side (F,) which side is opposed to side B, having the top closing portion T2.
The top portion exhibiting the top edge B3 is mitred at its two corners B4, B5 so that the hook H, can readily be inserted in the slot S, and the open bag top at T, closed by the top closing portion T2.
In Figure 3 a piece of plastics sheeting shown generally at 11 is dimensioned as shown 11, 12 being substantially equal and the slot S, positioned centrally in the top closing portion T,.
Hanger flap at top edge B3 is mitred at B4, B5 and welding is to be effected along edges E" E2 where cross hatched.
Claims

A bag in combination with a hanger having a bar and a hook, said bag having opposed sides of flexible sheet material of which one side has a top closing portion provided with a slot of a size arranged only to receive the said hook part of the said hanger and to allow it to pass through said slot and extend out of and clear of the said bag, the bar of said hanger being fixed at and close to the top edge of that side opposted to said one side having the top closing portion.
2. The bag as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the top closing portion has mitred corners.
3. The bag as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 when made of a single piece of transparent plastics material that is folded and welded along two opposed edges.
4. The bag substantially as hereinbefore described and as shown in the several figures of the accompanying drawing.
