Abstract

A price ticket holder comprises a frame with a front part 1a with a window 4 therein and a lip 40 around three sides with an internal shoulder 41 which receives the back part 1b. The two parts are secured by spigots 42 and adhesive. The back part 1b has opposed parallel resilient strips 7 and 8 with outwardly directed lips 9 to engage the opposed channels of a ticket rail. Cut-away parts [10] enable fingers to be passed therethrough to compress the strips 7 and 8 together to engage the ticket rail. Alternatively, the lips 9 may engage channels 60, 61 of a clip engageable with the edge of a glass shelf at any of three selected angles. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A ticket holder This invention relates to a ticket holder and is primarily concerned with a merchandising price ticket holder for engagement with the ticket rail of sheiving in stores for example.
Ticket holders comprising a frame into which a pricing card may be inserted are known but in order to enable these to be connected with a ticket rail it is customary to provide separate spring metal clips riveted to the rear of the frame.
The ticket rail comprises two spaced opposed parallel channels into which opposite marginal edge portions of the spring clips engage to retain the holder. A disadvantage of such a construction is that the clips may rotate as the rivets loosen and the rivets may also fatique and shear. The construction is also expensive to manufacture.
It is an object of this invention to provide a ticket holder which overcomes the aforementioned disadvantages and which is less costly to manufacture and simple to engage with a ticket rail.
According to this invention there is provided a ticket holder comprising a frame with a side thereof having a slot to receive a card whereby the card may be positioned within and retained by the frame, the front surface of the frame being adapted to display a surface of the card and the rear surface of the frame having at least two spaced parallel resilient strips projecting rearwardly out of the plane of said rear surface, free edges of the strips being engagable each with an opposed channel of a ticket holder rail.
Preferably the front surface of the frame has an open window area which allows a major part of a card surface to be displayed when inserted in the frame. The rear surface may have elongate slots from a side of which each of the strips project and this slot can include cut-away portions for finger entry to enable the strips to be compressed together to facilitate engagement thereof with the channels.
The ticket holder will conveniently be of a one piece plastics moulding. The strips may extend across the major part of the rear surface and each can comprise a single strip or two or more spaced strip portions in longitudinal alignment.
Further features of the ticket holder according to the invention are described with reference to an embodiment shown by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a ticket holder in front perspective view, Figure 2 shows the holder in rear perspective view, Figure 3 shows a section on A-A of Figure 1, Figure 4 shows a modified holder in rear exploded view, Figure 5 shows the front of the frame in rear view, and Figure 6 shows a ticket holder rail in accordance with another aspect of this invention.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings the ticket holder comprises a frame 1 of which the normally upper side has a slot 2 through which a card 3 may be passed so as to lie within the central area of the frame. The front surface of the frame has an open window 4 whereby matter on the face of the card 3 is displayed. This open portion could be of transparent material or have a transparent insert. The card 3 is bordered by the front surround 5 of the frame.
The rear surface 6 of the frame has integral parallel strips 7 and 8 which are deformed in the sense of projecting out of the plane of the surface and each strip has a longitudinal lip 9 which serves to engage the channels of a ticket holder rail normally affixed to shelving (not shown). The strips may be formed in the projecting position and are integral with the rear surface or they may be physically deformed from the plane of the surface. The arrangement is such that the top strip 7 engages under the upper channel of a ticket holder rail whereas the lower strips 8 engage the lower channel and the lips 9 serve to securely retain the holder. To facilitate engagement of the holder with the channels the surface 6 has arcuate cut-aways 10 for finger entry so that the strips 7 and 8 which are resilient can be squeezed together and then released to engage the channels.
With this construction the holder may be engaged with a ticket rail from the front in a simple manner and once engaged gives greater security due to the length of the strips as compared with known metal clips. A further feature is that the aperture in the rear surface 6 provide hanging points for literature, for example, if required.
Figures 4 and 5 show the construction of holder in more detail, this being made up from a front frame part 1 a and rear part 1 b. The front 1 a has a boundary lip 40 on three sides within which a stepped shoulder 41 is provided, the shoulder having upstanding spigots 42. The rear part 1 b fits within the lip 40 and has apertures 43 into which the spigots 42 engage. The part 1 b contacts the surface of shoulder 41 and is secured thereto by adhesive with the back surface of the part 1 b lying flush with the rearmost part of lip 40. The spigots 42 may be heat sealed to the part 1 b. The shoulder 41 defines the slot 2 when the parts are assembled.
Because the back of the rear surface is plain at 11 this serves as a useful area for attaching adhesive pads to enable the holder to be optionally attached to the front edge of a shelf directly. By providing an orifice 12 a clip can be attached to the rear of the holder which enables the holder to be fitted to a glass shelf. Only one clip need be fitted in this instance because abutment with the top strip 7 prevents rotation about the single point fixing.
One such novel clip is shown in section Figure 6 and this has two opposed channels 60, 61 into which the lips 9 of the holder may locate. The clip has jaws 62 which receive the edge of a glass shelf (not shown) and the shelf may be engaged by the edge portion selectively with either an internal channel A, B, or C to give varying angles a"5 or 8.
