Abstract

A glove 1 comprises thumb and finger sections 2, 3 and a palm section 4. A pad 5, 7 of scouring material is secured to the glove to provide a scouring surface on the glove useful in the kitchen or garden. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to a glove The invention relates to improvements in or relating to a glove.
According to the invention there is provided a glove having a surface thereon formed or provided with means for scouring.
Preferably, the means for scouring is arranged on a palm and/or finger section of the glove and may comprise a scouring element secured to or intergral with the glove. The term "finger section" as used herein also includes a section which recives the user's thumb.
The glove may be formed of rubber or plastics material.
Where the scouring surface is a scouring element secured to or integral with the glove, the element may be formed from a scouring material known as Scotchbrite (Scotchbrite is a registered trade mark).
The scouring element may be secured to the glove by means of an adhesive.
The element may comprise a palm portion and finger-like portions extending therefrom. In such a case, the finger-like portions may be provided with sockets at their free ends which receive the extremities of finger sections of the glove.
Gloves in accordance with the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the glove, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of part of an alternative form of glove.
A rubber glove 1 has respective thumb and finger sections 2, 3 and the usual roughened palm section 4.
An elongate pad 5 of flexible scouring material such as Scotchbrite is glued to the thumb section 2 and is preferably dimensioned so as to project slightly beyond the end thereof. The width of the pad is preferably greater than the width of the thumb section.
A further flexible scouring pad 6 of similar material is glued to the finger section 3 and a portion of the palm 4. The pad 6 is shaped to define a palm portion 7 and finger-like portions 8 which may be slightly wider than the individual fingers of the finger section and preferably extend beyond the ends thereof. The palm portion 7 of the pad could, of course, be shaped to cover the entire roughened palm section 4 of the glove.
Whilst the glove illustrated has individual fingers, the invention is equally applicable to mittens where the pad 6 need not be shaped to define individual finger portions, the term "glove" as used herein embracing mittens.
Instead of gluing pads of scouring material to the glove, a scouring surface can be formed integrally with the glove possibly during the glove moulding process.
The glove is particularly useful in the kitchen or garden to enable scouring operations to be performed without the aid of a separate scourer. For example, the glove can be used to scour saucepans or vegetables or to clean garden tools, garden canes, fish ponds/tanks, flower pots and lawnmowers.
Moreover, the glove protects the hand of the user while performing the scouring operation. The glove may also be used industrially for smoothing or de-burring operations on workpieces. Where used industrially, the glove may be made from reinforced rubber or plastics material or leather depending on the intensity of the scouring, smoothing or de-burring operation to be performed and according to whether or not the job is wet or dry.
A scouring surface formed from Scotchbrite or formed integrally with the glove is also useful in that it avoids fragmentation commonly associated with the wire wool type of scourer. Moreover with the scouring surface fast with the glove it is unnecessary to handle an additional scouring means which the user can easily "lose" in a washing up bowl or fish pond.
The material used for the pad or a scouring surface formed integrally with the glove can be of any desired grade to provide the necessary degree of scouring.
It may be useful to form the scouring pads 5, 6 with thimble-like socket portions 10 (Fig. 2) which receive the tips of the thumb and finger sections of the glove. Such an arrangement will protect the extremities of the glove and provide positive location of the pads.
The term "scouring" as used herein includes cleaning, polishing or brightening by means of friction.
Preferably, matching gloves in accordance with the invention will be used as a pair.
1. A glove having a surface thereon formed or provided with means for scouring.
2. A glove according to claim 1 in which the means for scouring is arranged on a palm and/or finger section of the glove.
3. A glove according to claim 1 or 2 in which the means for scouring comprises a scouring element secured to or integral with the glove.
4. A glove according to claim 3 in which the element is formed from a scouring material known as Scotchbrite.
5. A glove according to claim 3 or 4 in which the element is secured to the glove by means of an adhesive.
6. A glove according to claim 3,4 or Sin which the element comprises a palm portion and finger-like portions extending therefrom.
7. A glove according to claim 6 in which the finger-like portions are provided with sockets at their free ends which receive the extremities of finger sections of the glove.
8. A glove constructed and arranged substantially as described herein with reference to Fig. 1 or 2 of the accompanying drawings.
