Abstract
210,802. Kuipers, A. R. Feb. 5, 1923, [Convention date]. Planes, construction of.-An aeroplane wing has elastic membranes 2, 4 secured over its upper and lower surfaces, the spaces 3, 5 thus formed being maintained at a pressure respectively greater and less than the atmosphere by mechanical means or automatically by means of passages 7, 9 leading to regions of high and low pressure on the wing surface. Resilient means may be provided for keeping the membranes in their desired form. The spaces 3, 5 may be compartmented, each compartment having separate passages 7, 9. Ribs may be formed on the membranes to diminish lateral movement of air over the surface.
