Description

SPECIFICATION Floral display article This invention relates to floral display articles suitable for the display of live or artificial floral arrangements or of arrangements of dried flowers.
A floral display article, according to the present invention, comprises an upright rear wall and an upright front wall formed with an extensive aperture having an edge providing a frame for flowers disposed between the walls and displayed in the aperture, the walls being connected together to define therebetween below the aperture an open topped cavity in which supporting means for flowers displayed in the aperture can be located.
Preferably, the edge of the aperture is provided with a decorative finish.
Suitably, the walls of the article are respectively flat and dished and connected along outer edges thereof. Advantageously, the article is provided with support means to enable freestanding and/or wall mounting thereof. The dished form, and preferably shallow disched form, of the article according to the invention enables it to provide a self-contained cavity in which the floral display can be supported and supplied with water whilst at the same time affording a back frame in which the display is presented in the manner of a still life painting. The article according to the invention thus more closely than similar articles known hitherto enables floral displays to be presented so as to simulate pictures.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a floral display article according to the invention, and Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation of the article of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a floral display article is formed from ceramic material and comprises an upright, flat front wall 1 and an upright shallow dished rear wall 2. The walls 1 and 2 are joined along their upright edges and are connected at their lower ends to a bottom wall 3. The front wall i is in an upper part thereof and is formed with an extensive aperture 4 having a decorative, scolloped edge 5. At the bottom of the rear upright wall 2 is a support 6 which together with the bottom wall 3 enables freestanding of the article. Instead of or in addition to the support 6, there may be provided means for wall mounting the article. Such means may comprise a hole or holes in an upper part of the rear wall 2 or any other convenient support means.
Below the level of the aperture 5, the front and rear walls 1 and 2 and bottom wall 3 define a cavity 7 in which, in use of the article, are placed floral decoration supporting means of known form, for example, commercially available sponge like material in which flower stalks and the like can be placed and supported. Water can also be admitted to the cavity 7 for maintaining freshness of live floral displays disposed in the article.
1. A floral display article comprising an upright rear wall and an upright front wall formed with an extensive aperture having an edge providing a frame for flowers disposed between the walls and displayed in the aperture, the walls being connected together to define therebetween below the aperture an open topped cavity in which supporting means for flowers displayed in the aperture can be located.
2. A floral display article as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the edge of the aperture is provided with a decorative finish.
3. A floral display article as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the front and rear walls of the article are respectively flat and shallowly dished and connected along outer edges thereof.
4. A floral display article as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the walls are connected to afford a selfcontained water-tight cavity below the level of the aperture in the front wall.
5. A floral display article as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the rear wall is adapted to provide support means enabling free-standing of the article.
6. A floral display article as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the rear wall is adapted to enable the article to be wall supported.
7. A floral display article as claimed in any preceding claim and formed from ceramic material.
