Abstract

A merchandise price ticket assembly has a base stand (not shown) with an upstanding stem 3 carrying a display surface part 4. This part may have thereon a self- adhesive or self-adherent sheet 6 which is selected from an album of such components according to need and applied thereto is a pricing component 7 of a flexible self-adherent PVC which may thus be changed easily and also stored in an album. To provide a temporary highlight a readily-detachable sheet 8 can be attached to the part 4, the sheet having lower bent portions 10 forming channels 9 to engage the bottom of part 4. The upper part of sheet 8 may have a tab 12 or angled incisions or cut-outs (40) into which corners (40, 41) of the part 4 can be entered. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in merchandise price tickets This invention relates to merchandise pricing tickets of the kind comprising a rigid elongate support to which is applied the description of merchandise along with price or other information. With such tickets it is often required to highlight or provide further information to that conveyed by the display and it is an obejct of this invention to provide a simple attachment comprising a further component to be added to the ticket to carry such additional matter without obscuring the basic description on the support.

A further object is to provide an attachment which can be easily added or removed and which is hygienic and can be cleaned easily.

According to this invention there is provided a merchandise price ticket assembly comprising a support a display surface of which carries descriptive, pricing or other infomation, and an attachment comprising a flexible sheet of which an edge has a retroverted portion or portions forming one or more channels to engage an edge of the support, an intermediate zone of the attachment having a part with an incision or cut-out which may be deformed out of the plane of the sheet to engage behind or in front of another edge of the support whereby the sheet is removably retained on the support.

The attachment sheet is preferably transparent and a part extending upward beyond the top of the support may carry appropriate adhesive or adherent components or printing.

The incision or cut-out may form a tab preferably extending parallel to the edge of the attachment sheet and provided in an intermediate region to form a central tab which engage the upper edge of the support, or at the edges to form two side tabs.

In a further embodiment, two cutouts or incisions are provided spaced so as to be engageable with opposed top corners of the support.

The support will preferably comprise a rectangular display surface area with an elongate stem connecting with a base which may be bent to extend generally at right angles to the plane of the display surface and stem.

In one embodiment according to this invention there is provided a merchandise pricing ticket set comprising: (i) a support stand of a rigid or semi-rigid self-supporting material with a display surface, (ii) a flexible background sheet being adherent or adhesively coated on the one surface and with the other surface highly polished and including printing thereon, (iii) a pricing component having one surface highly polished and capable of releasably adhering or cohering to the other surface of the background sheet and including printing thereon, the background sheet being securable by the adhesive coated or adherent surface to the display surface of the stand and serving to carry the pricing component on the other surace; the set further including: (iv) an attachment of a flexible sheet material having one edge with one or more retroverted portions to form channels and one or more cut-outs or incisions spaced from said edge, the channels engaging the one side of the support stand and the or each cut-out or incision being engageable with an opposed side of the support.

Preferably the background sheet is coated with adhesive and is permanently securable by the adhesive coated surface to the display surface.

Two cut-outs or incisions will conveniently be provided in th flexible sheet spaced and angled so that each respective corner of the side of the support stand opposite the one side can be engaged with a cut-out or incision and pass through same. Alternatively, or additionally, an incision may be provided extending parallel with the one edge of the sheet material and defining a tab which can be bent from the plane of the sheet to engage the opposed side of the support. A number of such tabs could be provided so as to be spaced along the side of the support.

Preferably the kit to be provided according to this invention will comprise a number of support stands of a plain, that is unprinted, plastics material with a number of background sheets each having appropriate basic informatory wording or legends and carried by an adhesive coated surface or self-adherent surface on a support sheet from which the sheets are easily releasable. A user may then select the appropriate wording on a sheet and place same on a support stand to which a permanent adhesive connection is made. This obviates the necessity for having each stand printed individually and does not require a stock of pre-printed stands some of which may be unnecessary. The easily stored and replaced adhesive background sheets are applied as required from a stock album to thereafter form a permanent ticket.

Individual variable display matter such as price is carried by the separate pricing component which again is storable easily in an album and this is removably attached to the background sheet. This component may be of a highly polished PVC material, so-called "self-cling" vinyl, whereas the background may be of an adhesively coated vinyl or in itself a self-cling vinyl.

The attachment provides the advantage of enabling a pricing display to be highlighted by a simple measure without disturbing the display, whereby special offers or seasonal messages of a general character may be added.

The attachment may be of transparent ma terial and arranged to overlie the front of the display and can be of a highly polished material to receive self-cling or adhesive printed components on a portion extending above the cut-outs or incisions or tab.

If required the attachment could include matter already pre-printed thereon forming an overlay to add to the information conveyed on the display support itself. The overlay can comprise opaque areas with windows therein to display matter defined on the support.

An embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a made-up pricing ticket without the attachement, Figure 2 shows a ticket with the attachment, Figure 3 is a section on X-X of Fig. 2, Figure 4 shows a further made-up ticket according to a second embodiment, and Figure 5 is a side view of the ticket shown in Fig. 4.

Referring to Fig. 1, a price ticket comprises a single piece self-supporting stand 1 having a base portion 2, a stem part 3 and a display surface part 4. The stem 3 is bent through an approximate right-angle with respect to the base 2 at a crease line 5. The stand 1 is plain, that is it carries no printing directly thereon.

Appied to the surface part 4 of the stand is a background display sheet 6 of which the rear surface is adhesive coated forming a permanent bonded connection with surface 4, and the front surface is at least in part highly polished. The sheet 6 may be of a PVC material and is selected by the user according to requirements from an album in which the sheets are mounted on a backing paper easily releasable from the adhesive.

The highly polished surface of the sheet 6 receives a pricing component 7 of a flexible soft PVC material which has a highly polished rear surface causing it to adhere or cohere to the selected region of sheet 6 when pressed in position. The component 7 is, nevertheless, easily removable and can be changed without affecting the sheet 6.

The components 7 may be contained in an album on sheets of highly polished PVC, facilitating easy removal and replacement and storage.

The attachment of this invention comprises a transparent flexible sheet 8 which has one edge formed with two channels 9 by means of retroverted tabs 1 0. These tabs engage the lower side of the display part 4. An incision 11 in the attachment defines a tab 1 2 which can be bent from the plane of the sheet 8 to engage the upper side of the part 4 By this means the sheet 8 is detachably secured and the upper portion may carry a suitable legend 13, printed, stuck or clinging thereto.

In an alternative version (not shown) the sheet 8 lies over the front of the display part, and the sheet may have printing or components on the face thereof with suitable windows to view the matter on the display part 4.

The tab 1 2 could be replaced by incisions at each side forming two tabs.

Figs. 4 and 5 show another embodiment and in this version cut-outs or incisions 40 are provided in the attachment sheet 8, angled at 45 as shown and positioned so that the corners 41 of the display part 4 may be passed therethrough to secure same.

This embodiment is generally similar to that described previously and like parts are indicated by like reference numerals where appropriate. The embodiment of Figs. 4 and 5 is fitted to overlie the front of the part 4 and the sheet 8 may thus carry further adherent components if desired. The upper part of sheet 8 is wider than the part 4 in order to accommodate the corners in the incisions.

This latter embodiment provides a particularly useful arrangement as the overlay sheet 8 can be quickly engaged with part 4, by virtue of the resilience of both parts and once in position remains secured even when struck or disturbed during use of the display. This being an important point where shop staff have to reach forward over merchandise displayed, for example, in a window or counter or refrigerated cabinet. The arrrangement is also hygienic and easily cleaned.

Claims

1. A merchandise price ticket assembly comprising a support, a display surface of which carries descriptive, pricing or other information, and an attachment comprising a flexible sheet of which an edge has a retroverted portion or portions forming one or more channels to engage an edge of the support, an intermediate zone of the attachment having a part with an incision or cut-out which may be deformed out of the plane of the sheet to engage behind or in front to another edge of the support whereby the sheet is removably retained on the support.

2. A price ticket according to Claim 1, wherein the attachment sheet is transparent and a part extends upward beyond the top of the support to carry adhesive or adherent components or printing.

3. A price ticket according to Caim 1 or 2, wherein the incision or cut-out forms a tab extending parallel to the edge of the attachment sheet and provided in an intermediate region of the sheet, the tab engaging the upper edge of the support.

4. A price ticket according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein two cut-outs or incisions are provided spaced so as to be engageable with opposed top corners of the support.

5. A price ticket according to any preceding claim, wherein the support comprises a rectangular display surface area with an elon gate stem connecting with a base which may be bent to extend generally at right angles to the lane of the display surface and stem.

6. A merchandise pricing ticket set comprising: (i) a support stand of a rigid or semi-rigid self-supporting material with a display surface, (ii) a flexible background sheet being adherent or adhesively coated on the one surface and with the other surface highly polished and including printing thereon, (iii) a pricing component having one surface highly polished and capable of releasably adhering or cohering to the other surface of the background sheet and including printing thereon, the background sheet being securable by the adhesive coated or adherent surface to the display surface of the stand and serving to carry the pricing component on the other surface, the set further including;; (iv) an attachment of a flexible sheet material having one edge with one or more retroverted portions to form channels and one or more cut-outs or incisions spaced from said edge, the channels engaging the one side of the support stand and the or each cut-out or incision being engageable with an opposed side of the support.

7. A price ticket according to Claim 6, wherein the background sheet is coated with adhesive and is permanently securable by the adhesive coated surface to the display surface.

8. A price ticket according to any preceding claim, wherein two cut-outs or incisions are provided in the flexible sheet spaced and angled so that each respective corner of the side of the support stand opposite the one side can be engaged with a cut-put or incision and pass through same.

9. A price ticket according to any preceding claim, wherein an incision is provided extending parallel with the one edge of the sheet material and defining a tab which can be bent from the plane of the sheet to engage the opposed side of the support.

10. A price ticket according to Claim 9, wherein a number of tabs are provided spaced along the side of the support.

11. A price ticket according to any preceding claim, wherein the attachment is of transparent material and arranged to overlie the front of the display and of a highly polished material to receive self-cling or adhesive printed components on a portion extending above the cut-outs or incisions or tab.
