Abstract

A ratchet tensioning device for tensioning an elongate flexible web comprises a base (1) and a handle (2) both pivoted with respect to a winding barrel (3) having a slot (14) for the passage of the web. A ratchet mechanism (10,11) translates pivotal movement of the handle relative to the base into rotational movement of the winding barrel. A guide (39) for the flexible web is mounted on the base in spaced relation to the winding barrel so as to prevent pivotal movement of the base relative to the flexible web in use of the tensioning device. Only one web, anchored at both ends and threaded through the barrel and guide, is needed. <IMAGE>
