Gun cartidges; projectiles.-Relates to propellent cartridges for projectiles of the kind described in Specification 10883/15, that is, projectiles having a hollow tail-piece B, Fig. 1, of smaller diameter adapted to contain a propellent cartridge D the gases from which perforate the wall of the cartridge case C and escape through lateral holes B<1> in the tail-piece into the space around the tail-piece behind the projectile A. According to the invention, the cartridge, which comprises a propellent charge D, a cylindrical casing C, and a cap-carrying base C', is provided with one or more movable or deformable metal bodies disposed wholly within the casing and either within or beyond the charge and serving as a temporary yielding or intermediate resistance to the initial pressure of the gases from the propellent charge, whereby more regular combustion is ensured and consequently more precision in the range of flight of the projectile. As shown, the movable or deformable body mav be a lead disc F, Fig. 1, between a cardboard disc E and a felt wad G; or a metal thimble F<3>, Fig. 4, covered bv a cardboard disc E: or a false bottom F<2>, Fig. 3. In a modification of Fig. 1. the discs and wads are made slightly concave on their outer sides and are held in place by a circular groove round the cartridge casing.
