Description
SPECIFICATION
Sanitary console
The invention relates to a sanitary console.
The sanitary console of the invention is provided with a horizontal top part and a vertical access part at the front, these forming as a whole a bench or console which is specially designed to contain in its inside a water closet or a bidet or both at the same time, the said elements being in the iatter case arranged one next to the other, and the console adapting itself to them by means of the necessary openings and edges ofthe top part.
Thus the assembly which is the subject of the invention forms a console or bench on which the user will seat and whose sides otherthan the top and front ones will be closed with masonry and/or carpentry work in any finish in accordance with the rest of the bathroom or of the room in which the assembly is installed.
The cocks and fittings of the bidet and the actuator for the water closet's tank will be preferably installed at the front access part and/or on the top part, although this possibility is not essential to this invention, and the said fittings can optionally be placed outside of these two zones.
It is possible to give the whole assembly, in particular its characteristic elements (notably the lids) a different design with the purpose of obtaining different finishes and appearances ofthe assembly in order to harmonize it with the rest of the decoration.
According to the invention, there is provided a sanitary console for disposition in junxtaposed relationship with vertical wall surfaces of a sanitary closet for the console and comprising a first member defining an upwardly facing apertured surface and a second member which defines with said first member and said vertical wall surfaces an enclosure which is accessible through access means of the second member and in which at least one sanitary receptacle is concealed fromview and disposed with its entrance open to an aperture in said upwardly facing surface of the first member.
Preferably, the upwardly facing member has two side-by-side apertures and the enclosure of the console houses a toilet and a bidet. However, in the alternative either a toilet or a bidet may be present.
Conveniently, the second member comprises an upper portion extending at least to proximity with an anterior extremity of said first member and a lower portion extending at leastto proximitywithafloor of the sanitary closet and having at least part thereof displaceable to enable access to the enclosure of the console. For example, the lower portion of the second member may be hinged to said upper portion to enable said access.
Advantageously, the console may include a lid pivotally mounted so as to be hingeable between a raised and lowered position in which the entrance to each or one sanitary receptacle is open for use and closed, respectively.
Hence this happens to be an important change in the bathrooms existing up to now, and this change provides advantages from both the decorative and the functional point of view, which will undoubtedly bring about a notorious divulgation of the essential characteristics of the new invention.
The following is a specific description, by way of example only, of two preferred embodiments of the invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of part of a bathroom where one example of a sanitory console according to the invention has been installed;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the console shown in
Figure 1 with the lids 11 thereof in raised position to expose a toilet and bidet forming part of the console;
Figure 3 is a view ofthe console shown in Figures 1 and 2 from the direction of the arrow A shown in
Figure 2 with the dispositions of the toilet and bidet and associated plumbing shown in chain lines;
Figure 4 is a cross-section taken on a vertical plane passing through the centre of the toilet shown in
Figure 3 and into the plane of the paper;;
Figure 5 is a cross-section similar to that shown in
Figure 4 but showing the bidet of the console shown in Figure 3; and
Figure 6 is a front view similar to that shown in
Figure 3 but of an alternative embodiment of the invention in which the console has a toilet only.
As shown in Figure 1, the sanitary console shown in more detail in Figures 2 to 5 is installed in a bathroom 1 also equipped with a bath 2 and other items conventionally present in a bathroom. The console is placed in a zone where masonry and/or carpentry finishes 3 provide vertical wall surfaces which enclose the cavity of the console to its rear and lateral extremities. A front member 4 completes the console enclosure in co-operation with frame member 12, member 4 being provided with apertures for connection of controls 5 to a toilet 6 and bidet 7 housed within the console. Drain assemblies 8 and 9 are disposed within the console at front regions in order to be easily reached through access cover 10 provided beneath front member 4.The console is closed at the top by lids 11 mounted pivotally so as to be hingeable between a lowered position as shown in Figures 1 and 3 to 5 and the raised position shown in Figure 2. As shown particularly in Figures 4 and 5, lids 11 in their lowered positions are supported at their anterior edges by frame member 12.
The console shown in Figure 6 is similar to that shown in Figures 1 to 5 except in that, as already mentioned, it comprises no bidet, and like parts are designated by like reference numerals. Of course, the console shown in Figure 6 may easily comprise a bidet rather than a toilet and could readily be constructed in this form by those skilled in the art.
The invention as described herein without reference to the drawings may include any one or more of the features described hereinbefore with reference to the drawings.
As will be appreciated from the foregoing description with reference to the drawings, the console of the invention provides the following advantages in particular:
a) it permits to embed all the elements in a bathroom, since to now onlythe bathtub, the shower platform and eventually the washstand used to be embedded, while with the claimed assembly it is also possible to embed the water closet and the bidet, thus giving a uniform treatment to the whole bathroom; b) as a consequence of the previous paragraph the inaccessible corners presented by the traditional water closets and bidets and which used to accumulate much dirt are now totally eliminated, and because of all this the new design provides important advantages with respect to hygiene, maintenance and cleanliness; ;
c) a considerable reduction of the masonry work is obtained thanks to the enormously simplified laying of the above mentioned parts;
d) the price of the water closet or bidet elements is considerably reduced because their outer finish can become much simpler due to the fact that their outer surfaces are not any more exposed to the sight;
e) an extreme ease of repair is achieved for both elements thanks to the good accessibility provided by the front access part; for which purpose the
U-traps corresponding to both elements will be positioned at the front and will be accessible through an access cover foreseen to that effect at the above-mentioned front side of the sanitary console
Claims (12)
1. A sanitary console for disposition in juxtaposed relationship with vertical wall surfaces of a sanitary closet for the console and comprising a first member defining an upwardly facing apertured surface and a second member which defines with said first member and said vertical wall surfaces an enclosure which is accessible through access means of the second member and in which at least one sanitary receptacle is concealed from view and disposed with its entrance open to an aperture in said upwardly facing surface of the first member.
2. A sanitary console as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the upwardly facing member has two sideby-side apertures and the enclosure of the console houses a toilet and a bidet.
3. A sanitary console as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the said sanitary receptacle is a toilet or a bidet.
4. A sanitary console as claimed in any one of
Claims 1 to 3 wherein said second member comprises an upper portion extending at least to proximity with an anterior extremity of said first member and a lower portion extending at least to proximity with a floor of the sanitary closet and having at least part thereof displaceable to enable access to the enclosure of the console.
