Abstract

A hook for lifting coils or rolls comprises a frame 7 with a hand hole 8 and a load-engaging platform 10 pivotally mounted on the free end of the frame. The platform has a wedge- shaped profile and bears a lip 11 in line with the pivot pin 12. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to coil tilting hooks This invention relates to the safe tilting and lifting of coils or rolls, where the major problem with lots of similar devices is jamming and rotation does not occur smoothly.
An object of the invention is to eliminate the use of ropes or slings and consequently dragging the face of one coil over another one beneath it.
The pivotting wedge ensures easy tilting of stacked coils and it also acts as a safety restraint when the coil is lifted into the vertical position.
The coil can then be transported with safety and loaded onto the required machinery.
The Coil Tilting Hook can also be used in reverse i.e. to unload equipment, where the coil or roll is vertical but it is required to be stacked horizontally. To ease stacking and entrance of the pivot wedge it is desirable to place battens between the coil faces.
Figure 1 shows the lifting frame connected to a hoist and the separator pivot wedge slid into position on the face of the coil.
Figure 2 shows the lifting arm being raised so that the separator pivot wedge is now lifting and tilting the coil or roll.
Figure 3 shows the coil tilting hook in the vertical position with the coil or roll retained by the separator pivot wedge.
Figure 4 is a side view of Figure 3.
The pivot wedge is retained to the frame by a hinged pin to ensure smooth rotation. The centre of the pin being in line with the inside lifting face of the pivot wedge.
A further pin is attached to the pivot wedge to restrict its angular movement.
Claim (Filed on 14 April 1982) 1. A pivot wedge hook for lifting and tilting, operating by means of a round pin through the frame and pivot wedge.
