Abstract

A roller blind assembly comprises a transparent roller blind (2, 3) and two guideways (7) to guide the two side edges of the roller blind (2), each guideway (7) having a slot angled to the main plane of the blind (2) so as to bend the corresponding side edge of the blind (2) to form a draught-proof seal. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Roller blind assembly for fitting or fitted to the inside of a window
Description This invention relates to a roller blind assembly for fitting or fitted to the inside of a window. A particular application of the invention is to a roller blind assembly for fitting or fitted to the inside of a window, comprising a translucent or transparent roller blind.
According to the invention there is provided a roller blind assembly fitted to the inside of a window, comprising a roller blind fitted at the top of the window and two guideways at the two respective sides of the window to guide the two side edges of the roller blind, characterised in that each guideway is angled to the main plane of the blind so as to bend the corresponding side edge of the blind around whereby the said side edge bears against the guideways to form a substantially draught-proof seal therewith.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a partly diagrammatic vertical section of a window to the inside of which a roller blind assembly is fitted in accordance with the invention; and Figure 2 is a diagrammatic partial section on line A-A of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated a roller blind assembly fitted to the inside of a window, on the outside of which there is fitted a transparent glass window pane 1. The roller blind assembly comprises a transparent roller blind 2 on a roll 3 fitted at the top of the window. The assembly also comprises an L-section pelmet 4 serving to conceal the roll 3 and a sealing member 5 fitted to the inside of the bottom edge of the pelmet 4 to engage the roller blind 2 so as to effect a substantially draught-proof seal along the top of the roller blind 2.
Two guideways 7 are provided at the two respective sides of the window to guide the two side edges of the roller blind 2.
In accordance with the invention, as shown in Figure 2 each guideway 7 is formed as a slot angled to the main plane of the blind 2 so as to bend the corresponding side edge of the blind 2 around whereby the said side edge bears against the guideway 7 to form a substantially draughtproof seal therewith. Each guideway 7 may be fashioned from a strip of wood or may be a plastic moulding. By virtue of the fact that the slot in each guideway 7 is angled to the main plane of the blind so as to bend the corresponding side edge of the blind around, the side edge bears against the guideway 7 to form a substantially draught-proof seal therewith even if the two guideways 7 are not accurately aligned with each other or with the blind. The wood strips or mouldings forming the guideways 7 can be fastened to the inner sides of the window opening with nails or screws or even by being glued.
Finally, a sealing member 8 is placed at the bottom of the window opening to engage the bottom of the blind.
Because the roller blind is transparent or translucent (preferably transparent) fitting such a roller blind assembly to the inside of a window is a cheap but quite effective way of double-glazing a window.
If a similar roller blind assembly, but without the guideways 7, has already been fitted to the inside of a window, and draughts around the side edges of the roller blind are proving to be problem, it is a simple matter to fit the guideways 7 to the sides of the window opening to receive the side edges of the roller blind and effect substantial draught-proofing at the sides of the roller blind.
CLAIMS 1. A roller blind assembly fitted to the inside of a window, comprising a roller blind fitted at the top of the window and two guideways at the two respective sides of the window to guide the two side edges of the roller blind, characterised in that each guideway is angled to the main plane of the blind so as to bend the corresponding side edge of the blind around whereby the said side edge bears against the guideway to form a substantially draught-proof seal therewith.
2. A roller blind assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein each guideway is formed as a slot angled to the main plane of the blind.
3. A roller blind assembly as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein draught-proof seals are provided at the top and bottom of the window to engage the roller blind.
4. A roller blind assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a pelmet is fitted at the top of the window.
5. A roller blind assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the blind is translucent or transparent.
