Abstract

An antitheft device, consists of a bolt (1) with a cylindrical head (2) housed in a bored cylindrical shell (3), which is mounted with clearance on the bolt shank or on a collar (5) of the bolthead; the head ends in a front face (6) having a number of bores (7) parallel to the axis and arranged in a given pattern; the positions and the diameters of said bores correspond with the positions and the diameters of as many pins (8) projecting from the front face of a block (10) having a hexagonal portion (11) which can be engaged by a spanner. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Anititheft device The invention relates to an antitheft device, according to the invention there is provided an antitheft device characterised by a screw threaded member ending in a head housed in a bored cylindrical shell which has inwardly projecting flange and which is mounted with clearance on the shank of said threaded body or on a collar of the bolt head, which head has a face having a number of bores therein parallel to the axis and arranged according to a given pattern, the positions and the diameters of said bores corresponding with the positions and the diameters of pins projecting from the end face of a block having a surface position which can be operatively engaged by a spanner or the like.
Preferably also the outer surface of said shell has hexagonal cross-section.
Advantageously, the extremity of the bolt shank, in contact with a collar of the bolthead, carries a washer forcedly fitted.
The construction described aims to prevent the bolt from being unscrewed from its seat, by persons who do not have the block with pins acting as a secret key.
The invention will become more apparent from the following description with reference to the annexed drawings, in which: Fig 1 is a side view of a bolt according to the inven tion; Fig. 2 is a front view; Fig. 3 and 4 show the cylindrical shell; Figs. 5 and 6 show the key block; and - Figs. 7 and 8 show the washer.
As shown in the drawing, head 2 of a bolt 1 is housed in a bored cylindrical shell 3 having an inwardly projecting flange 4 and mounted with clearance on the shank of bolt 1 or on a collar 5 of head 2. That head ends in a front face 6 having a number of bores 7, parallel with the axis and arranged in a given pattern. The positions and diameters of said bores correspond with the positions and diameters of as many pins 8 projecting from the end face 9 of a block 10 of which a portion is hexagonally shaped and can be engaged by a spanner or the like.
Preferably the outer surface of said shell 3 is of hexagonal cross-section.
Advantageously the extremity of the bolt shank, in contact with a step or collar of the head, carries a washer 13 forcedly mounted on said shank.
The axial length of shell 3 is greater than that of head 2. The remaining hollow 14 may be closed by a pug 15, preferably of rubber.
In operating position the antitheft device is arranged as shown in Fig. 1.
The end portion remote from shell 3 has a male or female thread (in that second case, a nut should be referred to instead of a bolt, but the operation is the same).
A person having key-block 10 engages by it the head 2 by inserting pins 8 in bores 7 and then, by acting on the hexagonal portion 11 of block 10, he screws the bolt or nut on its seat and introduces plug 15 into hollow 14.
If the bolt or nut has to be unscrewed, it is sufficient to act in the opposite direction on portion 11 of block 10.
Any unauthorized person trying to remove the bolt would be deceived by the provision of plug 15 which gives the bolt a conventional appearance, and by the hexagonal contour of shell 3 which suggests to engage it by a spanner orthe like; yet that action will be unsuccessful as the shell is idle and cannot transmit torsional stresses.
It will be appreciated that the number, the shapes and the positions of bores 7 may be changed in various ways so that any person desiring to make a set of blocks 10 should make a lot of unsuccessful attempts.
This kind of antitheft device is suitable for many applications, and its use has proved particularly successful in preventing motor-vehicle wheels from being stolen.
It is clear that the above description refers merely to an exemplary embodiment, and changes and modifications are possible without departing from the scope of the invention claimed. Thus for instance portion 11 of block 10 could be in the form of quadrangular instead of hexagonal prism or it could have two parallel faces allowing the engagement by a spanner or the like.

An antitheft device, characterised by a screw threaded member ending in a head housed in a bore cylindrical shell which has an inwardly projecting flange and which is mounted with clearance on the shank of said threaded body or on a collar of the bolt head, which head has a face having a number or bores therein parallel to the axis and arranged according to a given pattern, the positions and the diameters of said bores corresponding with the positions and the diameters of pins projecting from the end face of a block having a surface portion which can be operatively engaged by a spanner or the like.
2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that said bored shell has an hexagonal outer surface.
3. Device according to claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the axial length of said shell is greater than the axial of said head so as to leave a hollow which can be closed by a plug.
4. Device according to claims 1,2, or 3, characterised in that said screw threaded member is a bolt.
5. Device according to claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that said threaded member is a nut.
