Abstract
An electronic computing device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race comprises a case, a pre-programmed microprocessor in the case, a keyboard on the case and a display on the case for displaying such a result.
Description
SPECIFICATION
A computing device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race
The present invention relates to a computing device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race.
The ability to forecast successfully the likely result of a future horse race requires a knowledge of the abilities of the competing horses and of the variables that can affect their current form coupled with an element of luck to cover unforeseen eventualities.
According to the present invention there is provided an electronic device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race, comprising a case, a pre-programmed microprocessor in the case, a keyboard on the case and a display on the case for displaying such a result.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:~
Figures 1 and 2 are front and side views of a computing device according to an example of the invention;
Figures 3a), 3b) and 3c) show examples of information that can be displayed on a display of the device; and
Figure 4 is a flow chart relating to the operation of the device's computer.
The following example of the present invention provides a simple form of computing device which will provide an indication of the probability of a future result of a horse race based upon a statistical analysis of past form which can be biased to take account of known variables, personal preferences, and an element of luck. The example comprises a case housing a computer in the form of a pre-programmed microprocessor, and on the front of the device there are: an electronic display; printed instructions; and a keyboard. The device can be operated in the following three modes:
Record; Favour; and Select Forecast, respective keys of the keyboard being provided under the printed instructions respective to these modes.
When the device is in the Record Mode, pressing of a particular such key is followed by feeding in data to the device's computer numbered 0-9.
In the Record Mode the form of the opposing horses is inserted with details of Starting Price and the results of previous races, using the keys pertaining to this mode and the keys numbered 09. Figure 3a) shows an example of information on the display as a result of this.
In the Favour Mode, the device's computer operates under the control of its program to produce, from the data which has been fed in, the chance of the horse winning against the other horses in the race. This chance may be varied at will by the input of information relating to the effect of such variables as:- Weight Carried, Age of Horse, Type of Going, Distance of the Race,
Course Preference, Form of Trainer, Standard of
Jockey and Assessment of Chance by other
Tipsters, using the keys of the keyboard pertaining to the Favour Mode. Figure 3b) shows an example of information on the display as a result of this.
In the Select Forcast Mode, each set of computed probabilities can be withdrawn selectively from the memory of the device's computer for diaplay in ranked order of probability by pressing the respective one of the keys pertaining to this mode, namely Starting Price
Forecast, Form and Favour Forecast, Starting Price combined with Form and Favour Forecast, or Best
Bets. In addition, the over-round of the book is displayed as "% Book Payout". Figure 3c) shows an example of information on the display as a result of such an operation.
Figure 4 is a flow chart showing the sequence of operations that may be carried out by the device's computer under the control of its programming.
Claims (8)
1. An electronic computing device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race, comprising a case, a pre-programmed microprocessor in the case, a keyboard on the case and a display on the case for displaying such a result.
2. A computing device according to claim 1, wherein the microprocessor is programmed for operating on the basis of statistical data of the starting prices of horses, for predicting the probability of a race result and computing the over-round of the Book.
3. A computing device according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the microprocessor is programmed for operating on the basis of statistical information ot past results of horses racing for predicting the probability of a future race.
4. A computing device according to claim 1, wherein the microprocessor is programmed for operating on the basis of the starting price and past results for predicting the probability of a future race.
5. A computing device according to any preceding claim, wherein the microprocessor is programmed for operating on the basis of the predicted probability of a future race and the odds offered for predicting the Best Bets.
6. A computing device according to any preceding claim, wherein the predicted probability of future racing results can be adjusted to any degree by the inclusion of personal preference for the horses.
7. A computing device according to any preceding claim, wherein the predicted racing results can be stored in a memory for recall and display by type in ranked order.
8. A computing device for giving an indication of the probable result of a horse race, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
