Abstract

Make-and-break switches, mechanical. - In order to balance the load on the phases of a threephase source supplying electric welding machines, for example seam-welding machines as described in Specification 133,700, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working], through a single phase transformer, the primary of the transformer is connected 'to each of the three phases in turn. As shown, four cam discs m, n, o, p on a common shaft driven from the welding machine actuate, in succession, four pendulum contact arms III, I, I, II connected respectively to phases 3, 1, 1, 2 of the supply. The fixed contacts a, b are connected to one end of the primary T and contacts c, d are connected to the other end. The cams are so arranged that, after each interruption of the current, a different phase comes on the transformer. If the three-phase source has a neutral, three switches are sufficient.
