Abstract

The invention concerns a container adapted for use as a sauna. Changing room and sauna areas are provided (11 and 12 respectively). The changing room area may contain lockers 15, a bench and storage shelves 17 for towels. The sauna area may contain one or more benches 23 and a stove 22. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Transportable Containers This invention concerns transportable containers and is particularly concerned with their adaptation for use as saunas.

Transportable containers, particularly International Standards Organisation (ISO) containers, are usually made in one of two sizes, namely 40ftxftx82ft and 20ftx8ftx8Aft. These containers are used for transporting goods but it has now been found that they can be adapted to provide transportable accommodation.

Accordingly this invention provides a transportable container adapted for use as a sauna and comprising a changing room area and a sauna area.

The changing room area will preferably contain usual changing room items such as lockers, shower units, benches, shelving for storage of towels and the like, massage tables, etc. These items may be secured to the walls or floor of the container by suitable means such as nuts and bolts and brackets.

The sauna area will contain a means for providing heat such as a one or three phase electric stove, whereon stones can be heated, if steam is required, steam being produced by splashing water onto the heated stones. Usually, the sauna area will also contain one or more benches. Again the stove and benches may be secured to the container walls or floor by suitable means.

The container itself will preferably be provided with heat insulation on its walls and roof, ventilation means preferably in both the changing room and sauna areas, and lighting means.

Electric wiring for items such as the stove and lighting, and piping for supplying water to the shower(s) and sauna and for waste disposal are also preferably installed in the container so that the container can be transported to an appropriate site and be ready for use as soon as it is connected to electricity and water supplies and a drainage system.

The invention will now be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows schematically a transportable container sauna.

Referring to the drawing, an ISO 40ftx8ftx82ft container 10 has a changing room area 11 and a sauna area 12 separated by a partition 20. Access to the sauna area 12 from the changing room area 11 is via door 21 in the partition 20. The entrance to the changing room area 11 is via door 13 in bulkhead 14. (When the sauna is in use, the normal container doors (not shown) will remain open but will be locked shut for security when the sauna is not in use).

The changing room area 11 contains lockers 1 5, a bench 16, normally of pine, shelving 1 7 for storing towels and a shower unit 1 8.

The sauna area 12 contains a stove 22 and a bench 23.

Ventilation for the changing room area 11 is provided by vent 19 and for the sauna area by vent 24.

The walls and roof of the container are heat insulated and the walls, roof and floor of the container may be finished as desired, such as with panelling, tiling carpeting etc.

As shown the changing room area is approximately 27ft long and the sauna area 12 ft long. This size of sauna area with appropriate benches could seat up to 1 5 people.

The container of the invention has been described as containing certain items but it will be appreciated that any conventional changing room or sauna items can be readily accommodated.

Claims

1. A transportable container adapted for use as a sauna and comprising a changing room area and a sauna area.

2. A container as claimed in claim 1 wherein the changing room area contains one or more of lockers, shower units, benches, shelving and massage tables.

3. A container as claimed in claim 2 wherein said changing room contents are secured to the walls or floor of the container as appropriate.

4. A container as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the sauna area contains a one or three phase electric stove.

5. A container as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 4 wherein the sauna area contains one or more benches.

6. A container as claimed in claim 5 wherein the sauna area benches are secured to the floor and/or walls of the container.

7. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 provided with heat insulation on its walls and roof.

8. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7 provided with ventilation means in the changing room area.

9. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8 provided with ventilation means in the sauna area.

10. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9 provided with lighting means.

11. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10 having installed therein electrical wiring and water supply and waste disposal piping.

12. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 which is an ISO container.

The invention will now be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows schematically a transportable container sauna. Referring to the drawing, an ISO 40ftx8ftx82ft container 10 has a changing room area 11 and a sauna area 12 separated by a partition 20. Access to the sauna area 12 from the changing room area 11 is via door 21 in the partition 20. The entrance to the changing room area 11 is via door 13 in bulkhead 14. 1. A transportable container adapted for use as a sauna and comprising a changing room area and a sauna area.

2. A container as claimed in claim 1 wherein the changing room area contains one or more of lockers, shower units, benches, shelving and massage tables.

3. A container as claimed in claim 2 wherein said changing room contents are secured to the walls or floor of the container as appropriate.

4. A container as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the sauna area contains a one or three phase electric stove.

5. A container as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 4 wherein the sauna area contains one or more benches.

6. A container as claimed in claim 5 wherein the sauna area benches are secured to the floor and/or walls of the container.

7. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 provided with heat insulation on its walls and roof.

8. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7 provided with ventilation means in the changing room area.

9. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8 provided with ventilation means in the sauna area.

10. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9 provided with lighting means.

11. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10 having installed therein electrical wiring and water supply and waste disposal piping.

12. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 which is an ISO container.
