Abstract

A badminton shuttlecock and a racquet are provided with mutually adherent pieces capable of adhering to each other when brought into contact with each other. The adherent pieces, for example, could be a combination of a permanent magnetic piece and an iron strip, or a "Velcro" (R.T.M.) fabric piece and a Velcro fabric strip having adhesive bristles. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Badminton shuttlecock and racquet with easy-pick-up This invention relates to badminton shuttlecocks and racquets.
Badminton is very popular in various parts of the world. The game provides a lot of fun when the shuttlecock is being volleyed in the air, but it is bothersome when the shuttlecock falls to the ground and has to be picked up by hand.
This invention proposes a badminton shuttlecock and a racquet provided with mutually adherent pieces capable of adhering to each other when they are brought into contact with each other. The pieces according to this invention include a permanent magnetic piece and a piece of iron or steel strip, or a "velcro" (R.T.M.) fabric piece and fabric strip having adhesive bristles.
According to this invention, a badminton shuttlecock can be picked up from the ground with the racquet simply by extending the racquet to it; there is thus no need for one to bend down to pick it up.
The construction, features, and objects of this invention will be more fully understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the racquet of a first embodiment of this embodiment, wherein the racquet is provided with a permanent magnetic piece.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the mounting of the permanent magnetic piece on a racquet as shown in Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a badminton shuttlecock having a metal strip around its body capable of adhering to a permanent magnetic piece.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the racquet of a second embodiment of this invention, wherein the racquet is provided with a "velcro " fabric piece having adhesive bristles.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a badminton shuttlecock provided with a ''velcro '' fabric piece having adhesive bristles.
Figure 6 and 7 show alternative shuttlecocks to that of Fig. 5.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, there is shown the end portion of the badminton racquet of a first embodiment of this invention. In this embodiment a permanent magnetic piece 5 is mounted onto the end portion of the racquet frame 1 with a holder 7 at each pole of the permanent magnetic piece 5 and a mounting bracket 8. The holder 7 is made of ferromagnetic material such as iron so that the magnetic force of the permanent magnetic piece 5 is intensified. The mounting bracket 8 is made of non-magnetic material such as aluminum or hard plastic. The mounting bracket 8 is designed to detachably mount the permanent magnetic piece 5 onto the racquet frame, so that the permanent magnetic piece 5 can also be dismounted from the racquet frame at the player's option.
The permanent magnetic piece 5 can be single, solid piece, or a combination of multiple pieces.
In Fig. 3, there is shown a badminton shuttlecock 2 provide with a ferro-magnetic metallic strip 9 capable of adhering to the permanent magnetic piece 5 mounted on the racquet. The metallic strip 9 is preferrably made of iron or steel in the form of ring around the shuttlecock body. The shuttlecock 2 having ferro-magnetic, metallic strip or ring 9 can be picked up when brought into contact with a racquet having a permanent magnetic piece 5 as described above.
It is to be understood that the size of the permanent magnetic piece 5 and the size of the ferro-magnetic strip 9 are so minimal that they are only capable of holding the still weight of a standard shuttlecock and therefore will not affect the normal movements of the shuttlecock in a game.
In Fig. 4, there is shown the end portion of the racquet of a second embodiment of this invention. In this embodiments, a "velcro fabric piece having adhesive bristles 10 is firmly attached to the end portion of the racquet frame 3.
The badminton shuttlecock to be used in combination with the racquet of the second embodiment of this invention is shown in Fig.
5. The badminton shuttlecock according to this embodiment is provided with a ''velcro " fabric strip having adhesive bristles 10' around the shuttlecock body as shown in the drawing. The fabric piece 10 and the fabric strip 10', both having "velcro" adhesive bristles, are capable of adhering to each other when brought into contact with each other, and also capable of being separated from each other with very little effort.
The permanent magnetic piece, the ferromagnetic metallic strip, and the "velcro fabric piece and fabric strip having adhesive bristles will not hold or adhere to foreign material such as dust, therefore their adhering capability will not deteriorate over a long period of heavy, repeated use.
The shuttlecocks shown in Figs. 6 and 7 are alternatives to that of Fig. 5. In the former the "velcro " material covers entirely the nose of the shuttlecock and in the latter it extends in a band about the feather flights of the shuttlecock near its tail end.
