Abstract
This invention relates to a machine which automatically carries out the cutting of the chain, the joining of the stamped ring and the welding of end rings in ornamental chains. It comprises first movable pincers (2) which after taking up the stamped ring (3) from a container (4), carry it upon the extremity of a metallic coil causing the interlacing of said stamped ring therewith; then a first cutting device (21) cuts a single spiral (end ring 6) from said coil; afterwards this end ring (6) is taken up by second movable pincers (18) which carry it adjacent the first end (22) of an ornamental chain (7) to which the end ring is fixed by means of a first welding blowpipe (10). The ornamental chain (7) of an indefinite length is carried by a movable trolley (9) which, as the fixing of the end ring (6) to the chain (7) has been accomplished, goes back of a length which is equal to the predetermined length of the ornamental chain (7). Then a pair of catching pincers (11 and 12) pick up the ornamental chain while a second cutting device (24) carries out the cutting of chain (7). Third movable pincers (15), after taking up a second end ring (16), join it by means of another welding blowpipe (17) to the second end (25) of chain (7). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Automatic machine for cutting the chain, joining the stamped ring and welding the end rings in ornamental chains
At present, the joining of the stamped ring (by stamped ring meaning the ring having engraved a stamp thereon) and the welding of the end rings in ornamental chains, such as necklaces, armlets and the like, is exclusively carried out by completely manual operations which cause a waste of time and of labour.
Therefore, it is an object of this invention to accomplish a machine by which it is possible to carry out the cutting of the chain, the joining of the stamped ring and the welding of the end rings in ornamental chains by completely mechanical and automatic operations, which allows to save much time and labour.
This and other objects are attained by the machine of the invention for cutting the chain, joining the stamped ring and welding the end rings in ornamental chains, characterized in that it comprises:-first movable pincers suitable to taken up a single stamped ring from a container and to carry it adjacent the end of a coil obtained from a continuous wire by means of a first coiled device;---one cutting device for cutting one single spiral from said coil, said spiral forming the first end ring and interlacing with said stamped ring;-second movable pincers suitable to take up said end ring interlaced with the stamped ring, said second pincers being provided for carrying the end ring and the stamped ring interlaced therewith to a following operating area;;-a movable trolley provided with rectilinear back and forth motion with respect to said operating area, said movable trolley, by its forward motion, being suitable to carry one end of the ornamental chain to the operating area and then, by its backward motion, to move backwards of a length which is equal to the predetermined length of said ornamental chain, said one end of the ornamental chain being fixed to said second movable pincers during the backward motion of the movable trolley;---one blowpipe, placed by the operating area, suitable to fix the end ring interlaced with the stamped ring to the one end of the ornamental chain;;-a pair of catching pincers parallelly movable with respect to one another transversally to the rectilinear back and forth motion of the movable trolley, said pair of catching pincers being provided for picking up the ornamental chain when the trolley is completely in its backward position;-a second cutting device, located near the movable trolley in its completely backward position, suitable to cut said ornamental chain at a second end thereof;-third movable pincers suitable to take up the last end ring from a second coiled device and to carry it adjacent the second end of said ornamental chain;-a second welding blowpipe, placed in the vicinity of the second end of said ornamental chain, suitable to fix said end ring to the second end of the ornamental chain.
Further features and advantages of the invention will appear more evident from the description which follows of a preferred embodiment, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective diagrammatic view of the fundamental members of the machine of the invention;
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic top view of the first movable pincers in three different operating positions thereof, as they catch a stamped ring from the vibrating container in order to bring it to interlace with the end ring coming out from the first coiled device;
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic view of the second pincers while taking up the end ring and of the first cutting device;
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic view of the welding of the end ring to the first end of the ornamental chain carried by the movable trolley;;
Figure 5 is a diagrammatic view of the ornamental chain withdrawn from the movable trolley in its completely backward position, as well as of the second cutting device;
Figure 6 is a diagrammatic view of the ornamental chain picked up by the pair of catching pincers, during the welding of the end ring to the second end of the ornamental chain.
Referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, it is been indicated at 1 a movable arm, suitable to rotate in a horizontal plane provided at its end with first pincers 2 fitted to catch a stamped ring 3 from a vibrating container 4, of a known type, and to carry it adjacent a first coiled device 5, of a known type too, from which an end coiled ring 6 comes out, this ring interlacing with the stamped ring 3.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, it has been indicated at 21 a first cutting device provided with blades 1 9 and 20 which provide for the cutting of the end ring 6 from the metallic coil of the first coiled device 5. Second movable pincers 18, which rotate in a vertical plane, take up the end ring 6 interlaced with the stamped ring 3 and, lying horizontally, bring it to a following operating area; in this area the end ring 6 is brought into contact with a first end 22 of an ornamental chain 7 (having an indefinite length and coming from a reel acting as a store and not shown in the Figures), this chain being retained by pincers 8 located on a movable trolley 9, thus allowing a first blowpipe 10 to carry out the welding of the end ring 6 to the chain 7.The movable trolley 9 is mounted on rectilinear horizontal guides 23 and is able to carry out a recipro cating back and forth movement with respect to the operating area, the excursion of said movement being equal to the predetermined length of the ornamental chain 7.
As the welding of the end ring 6 to the chain 7 has been carried out, the movable trolley 9 goes back of such predetermined length in order to allow a portion of the chain 7 to get free, this chain being supported at its first end 22 by the second movable pincers 18.
Turning now to Figs. 1, 5 and 6, a pair of catching pincers 11 and 12, provided with back and forth motion and movable parallelly to one another and transversally with respect to the rectilinear movement of the movable trolley 9, carry out a forward movement and catch the portion of chain 7 which is between the second movable pincers 1 8 and the movable trolley 9.
As the pincers 11 and 1 2 have carried out the catching, the second movable pincers 1 8 come back to their vertical position leaving the first end 22 of the chain 7; at the same time a second cutting device 24 provided with blades 1 3 and 14, accomplish the cutting of the chain 7 in the vicinity of the movable trolley in its backward positiOn, thus giving rise to the second end 25 of the chain 7 (Fig.
6). The portion of cut chain 7 is kept tight between the pincers 11 and 1 2 (Fig. 6) which go back to their starting position, while third movable pincers 15, suitable to rotate in a vertical plane (Fig. 1), take up a second end ring 1 6 from a second coiled device 26 (quite similar to the first coiled device 5), this ring being cut away by a third cutting device 27, and carry said end ring 1 6 adjacent the second end of chain 7.
The backward cross movement of the pair of catching pincers 11 and 1 2 causes said portion of chain 7 to move away from the movement line of the movable trolley 9, in such a way that it is possible to accomplish the welding of the end ring 1 6 while the movable trolley 9 begins to move again towards the second pincers 18 which, meanwhile, have catched a new end ring 6 interlaced with a stamped ring 3: it is the beginning of a new working cycle.
Evidently the machine has been only diagrammatically described and shown in the accompanying drawings, only the fundamental operating parts being indicated, while the different construction features have been omitted (above all the different members fitted for the automatism of various operations) as these ones can be carried out in various ways without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention.
