Description
SPECIFICATION
Movable washing apparatus
The invention relates to a movable washing apparatus. The invention is concerned in particular with a movable washing apparatus of the kind including a pump which is driven by an electric motor and which is connected to a water delivery device by a hose.
Known washing apparatus of the kind specified intended for high pressure operation have tended to be large in size and weight, with the result that they have been difficult to move from one location to another.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a washing device of the kind specified which is easy to move and which can be constructed cheaply and in compactform.
According to the invention there is provided a movable washing apparatus including a pump having a driven shaft arranged to be driven by a drive shaft of an electric motor, a hose for connecting the pump to a water delivery device, and a two-wheeled barrow on which are mounted the pump and the motor with their shafts arranged parallel to each other, the barrow having a generally L-shaped frame with the wheels disposed adjacent to the vertex of the frame, one end of the frame being formed as a handle and the other end of the frame being provided with a support foot.
By employing a two-wheeled barrow similar to a porter's barrow in a washing apparatus in accordance with the invention, the elements of the apparatus can be arranged in a compact manner. Also, the barrow can provide a stable rest position for the apparatus, and by a simple tilting movement the apparatus can be moved to a moving position which permits the apparatus to be readily moved from one location to another and even up or down stairs.
On embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevational view of a high pressure movable washing apparatus in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the apparatus shown in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a top view of the apparatus shown in
Figures 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, the washing apparatus includes an electric motor 1 which serves as a drive for a pump 2. The motor and the pump are mounted in a compact manner on a two-wheeled barrow 6 having an L-shaped frame, the wheels 7 of the barrow 6 being positioned adjacent the vertex of the frame. When the barrow 6 is in its rest position, one side of the L-shaped frame of the barrow extends vertically and is formed at its upper end as a handle 8, while the other side extends horizontally and is provided at its end remote from the vertex of the frame with a support foot 9 which rests on the ground. Preferably the foot 9 is formed integrally with the frame of the barrow 6.
A U-shaped chassis 3 is mounted on the frame of the barrow 6, the central position of the chassis 3 extending vertically (when the barrow 6 is in its rest position) and abutting against the vertically extending side of the frame, and the lower side portion of the chassis 3 engaging the horizontally extending side of the frame. The motor 1 and the pump 2 are mounted on the chassis 3 with the pump 2 disposed above the motor 1 and with a drive shaft 4 of the wheel and a driven shaft 5 of the pump 2 extending parallel to each other and passing through the central portion of the chassis 3. The upper side portion of the U-shaped chassis 3 is formed as a plate 19 on which are arranged indicating and actuating devices 20, 21 and 22 for the washing apparatus. The plate 19 also provides protection for the motor 1 and the pump 2 and serves as a support for an outlet conduit 23 of the pump 2.
The shaft 4 of the motor 1 is connected to the shaft 5 of the pump 2 by drive transmission means comprising pulleys 11 and 12 respectively mounted on the shafts 4 and 5, and a belt 14 passing round the pulleys 11 and 12. The pulley 11 is of smaller diameter than the pulley 12, thereby causing the driven shaft 5 of the pump 2 to rotate at a lower speed than that of the drive shaft 4 of the motor 1.
Compared with known washing apparatus, the motor 1 of the apparatus in accordance with the invention described above is a relatively high speed motor, operating at a speed of 2800 revolutions per minute. The ratio of the speed of rotation of the shaft 4 to that of the shaft 5 is 2 to 1. In view of the high speed of the motor 1 it is possible to keep its size small, thereby achieving a considerable saving in weight and space. The use of a high speed motor is possible since the outlet conduit 23 of the pump 2 is provided with an unloader valve 17. Before the pump 2 is switched on, the valve 17 is actuated so that the stored pressure in the conduit 23 is released thereby ensuring that upon switching on the motor 1 the pump 2 can start with no pressure exerted on it.
A cover 13 covers the drive transmission means 11,12, 14, the cover 13 serving as a reel fora hose 25. The cover 13 is provided with two supports 15 which serve to support a pistol-shaped water delivery device 16. The water delivery device 16 is connected to the outlet of the pump 2 by the hose 25, and when removed from the suports 15 is adapted to deliver a high pressure jet of water for washing purposes.
The motor 1 is provided with a thermal fuse (not shown) for protecting it from excessive loads, the fuse becoming effective in the event that the unloadear valve 17 is not actuated before the motor 1 is switched on. Since the motor 1 can start in an unloaded condition, a relatively small starting capacitor for the motor is sufficient.
A reel (not shown) may be provided for the electrical cable for the motor 1.
By virtue of the fact that the motor 1 and the pump 2 are arranged one above the other, there is achieved a particularly compact form of construction for the washing apparatus resulting in a reduction in length and width. Also, the washing apparatus may be readily moved from one location to another by tilting the upwardly extending side of the frame of the barrow 6 away from its vertical position by means of the handle 8, thereby lifting the foot 9 off the ground and enabling the apparatus to be wheeled along the ground using the handle 8.
In modified versions of the washing apparatus described above the chassis 3 could be displaced through 90" with respect to its position shown in
Figure 1 or could be formed as a closed rectangular frame.
