Abstract

A high tension ignition device for a gas burner of a cooker comprises an ignition electrode (3) which is screwed into an eccentrically arranged threaded bore (8) in a carrier body (7) inserted into a mounting plate (2). The position of the electrode tip with respect to the burner can be adjusted by rotating the carrier body (7) and for by rotating the electrode in the threaded bore (8). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Ignition device for a gas burner The present invention relates to an ignition device for a gas burner, and to heating means, for example a gas cooker, provided with such a device.
A high tension ignition device for that purpose must be located at a precisely determined spacing fXom the gas burner to provide trouble-free ignition.
In an ignition device disclosed in DE-OS 21 38 256, an ignition electrode is inserted in a horizontally arranged locating and assembly plate and is secured by a clamping screw connection. Several positioning bores, which are disposed at different spacings from the gas burner, are provided in the plate for reception of the electrode. As a result, in the case of cookers with different equipment and different disposition of gas burning points, the appropriate spacings and positions of the ignition device from a particular gas burner can be taken into consideration in assembly. It is not, however, possible to compensate for small production tolerances between the gas burner and the ignition electrode and to achieve an ideal spacing between gas burner and ignition electrose.
There is accordingly a need for an ignition device by which small production tolerances can be compensated for and the spacing, which is required for a trouble-free ignition, of an ignition electrode of the device from the gas burner point can be accurately maintained.
According to the present invention there is provided an ignition device for a gas burner, the device comprising a carrier body mountable in a support plate adjacent to such burner to be rotationally adjustable about an axis of the body, an ignition electrode threadedly engaged in a threaded bore provided in the body eccentrically of said axis, and securing means for securing the electrode relative to such plate.
In the case of an ignition device embodying the present invention a precisely determined spacing of the electrode from a gas burner can be produced and maintained in a simpie manner, and trouble-free ignition is thereby ensured.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of an ignition device embodying the present invention, the device being mounted in a support plate near a gas burner; Figure 2 is a plan view of the device and plate of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a schematic elevation of the ignition device of Figure 1 mounted on a modified support plate.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown part of heating means, for example a gas cooker, provided with a gas burner 1. Associated with the gas burner lisa locating and assembly plate 2, which serves for the mounting of an ignition electrode 3 which may be constructed to function in a conventional manner. The plate 2 is provided with a bore 4 into which a carrier body 7, having a collar 6, for the electrode 3 is inserted with the interposition of an annular seal 5. A threaded bore 8, which expediently is arranged eccentrically, is provided in the carrier body 7 for the screwing-in of the electrode 3. A spacing, ensuring trouble-free ignition of the electrode 3 from the gas burner 1 in the horizontal direction can be accurately produced through turning of the carrier body 7 in the bore 4.Adjustment of the electrode 3 in the vertical direction is effected by appropriate turning of the electrode in the threaded bore 8 in the carrier body 7. Securing of the electrode 3 in a selected setting is effected by a lock nut 9 acting against the underside of the plate 2. A lock washer 10 can be interposed between the lock nut 9 and the underside of the plate 2.
In a modification, the plate 2 is provided with an indentation 11, which defines an inclined surface portion facing towards the gas burner 1 and which has a passage 12 for the carrier body 7, the passage extending at a certain angle. With this arrangement, the production of a desired spacing of the ignition electrode 3 from the gas burner 1 is further facilitated.

2. An ignition device for a gas burner, the device being substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
3. Heating means comprising a gas burner, a horizontal support plate adjacent to the burner, and an ignition device as claimed in either claim 1 or claim 2 mounted in the plate.
4. Heating means as claimed in claim 3, wherein the plate has an apertured surface portion inclined at an angle to the horizontal to face towards the gas burner, the ignition device being mounted in the aperture in said surface portion.
5. Heating means as claimed in claim 3 and substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 or Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.

SPECIFICATION Ignition device for a gas burner The present invention relates to an ignition device for a gas burner, and to heating means, for example a gas cooker, provided with such a device. A high tension ignition device for that purpose must be located at a precisely determined spacing fXom the gas burner to provide trouble-free ignition. In an ignition device disclosed in DE-OS 21 38 256, an ignition electrode is inserted in a horizontally arranged locating and assembly plate and is secured by a clamping screw connection. Several positioning bores, which are disposed at different spacings from the gas burner, are provided in the plate for reception of the electrode. As a result, in the case of cookers with different equipment and different disposition of gas burning points, the appropriate spacings and positions of the ignition device from a particular gas burner can be taken into consideration in assembly. It is not, however, possible to compensate for small production tolerances between the gas burner and the ignition electrode and to achieve an ideal spacing between gas burner and ignition electrose. There is accordingly a need for an ignition device by which small production tolerances can be compensated for and the spacing, which is required for a trouble-free ignition, of an ignition electrode of the device from the gas burner point can be accurately maintained. According to the present invention there is provided an ignition device for a gas burner, the device comprising a carrier body mountable in a support plate adjacent to such burner to be rotationally adjustable about an axis of the body, an ignition electrode threadedly engaged in a threaded bore provided in the body eccentrically of said axis, and securing means for securing the electrode relative to such plate. In the case of an ignition device embodying the present invention a precisely determined spacing of the electrode from a gas burner can be produced and maintained in a simpie manner, and trouble-free ignition is thereby ensured. An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of an ignition device embodying the present invention, the device being mounted in a support plate near a gas burner; Figure 2 is a plan view of the device and plate of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a schematic elevation of the ignition device of Figure 1 mounted on a modified support plate. Referring now to the drawings, there is shown part of heating means, for example a gas cooker, provided with a gas burner 1. Associated with the gas burner lisa locating and assembly plate 2, which serves for the mounting of an ignition electrode 3 which may be constructed to function in a conventional manner. The plate 2 is provided with a bore 4 into which a carrier body 7, having a collar 6, for the electrode 3 is inserted with the interposition of an annular seal 5. A threaded bore 8, which expediently is arranged eccentrically, is provided in the carrier body 7 for the screwing-in of the electrode 3. A spacing, ensuring trouble-free ignition of the electrode 3 from the gas burner 1 in the horizontal direction can be accurately produced through turning of the carrier body 7 in the bore 4.Adjustment of the electrode 3 in the vertical direction is effected by appropriate turning of the electrode in the threaded bore 8 in the carrier body 7. Securing of the electrode 3 in a selected setting is effected by a lock nut 9 acting against the underside of the plate 2. A lock washer 10 can be interposed between the lock nut 9 and the underside of the plate 2. In a modification, the plate 2 is provided with an indentation 11, which defines an inclined surface portion facing towards the gas burner 1 and which has a passage 12 for the carrier body 7, the passage extending at a certain angle. With this arrangement, the production of a desired spacing of the ignition electrode 3 from the gas burner 1 is further facilitated. CLAIMS
1. An ignition device for a gas burner, the device comprising a carrier body mountable in a support plate adjacent to such burner to be rotationally adjustable about an axis of the body, an ignition electrode threadedly engaged in a threaded bore provided in the body eccentrically of said axis, and securing means for securing the electrode relative to such plate.
2. An ignition device for a gas burner, the device being substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
3. Heating means comprising a gas burner, a horizontal support plate adjacent to the burner, and an ignition device as claimed in either claim 1 or claim 2 mounted in the plate.
4. Heating means as claimed in claim 3, wherein the plate has an apertured surface portion inclined at an angle to the horizontal to face towards the gas burner, the ignition device being mounted in the aperture in said surface portion.
5. Heating means as claimed in claim 3 and substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 or Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.
