Spray carburettors.-A homogeneous and intimate combustible mixture is produced by causing fuel from a nozzle orifice to impinge on a rotating member of disc or approximately truncated conical shape which spreads and projects the fuel in a thin sheet cr film across a thin hollow column of air. Air enters through the choke tube 2 and passes, at 17, in the form of a hollow column, the edge of a rotating disc 10, on to the lower surface of which fuel is delivered from the nozzle orifice 7 by suction. The fuel is spread in a thin film and on leaving the periphery of the disc is projected transversely across the column of air. The disc is rotated over a fixed spindle 13 through gearing 14, 15 and may be driven by the engine, a turbine driven by exhaust gases, or an independent motor. The combustible mixture passes to the engine at 6. In a modification the disc is replaced by an approximately truncated conical member on to the interior surface of which the fuel is projected by the nozzle, the film in this construction not being at right-angles to the air column. The rotating member may be provided on the fuel side with ribs, grooves, or undulations of radial or helical form.
