Description
SPECIFICATION
Tank rucksack The invention relates to a tank rucksack.
Such tank rucksacks have been proposed and include a base part approximately 10 cm in height, which is secured to the tank of the motorcycle with straps and buckles. A separate rucksack part is securable by a peripheral slide fastener removable with the base part which for example is provided for receiving valuable items and during parking must not remain on the motorcycle. The rucksack part is provided on its upper side with a transparent compartment in which a card or map can be inserted.
This previously proposed tank rucksack is disadvantageous in that it is made extraordinarily high and no adaptation of its size is possible to the actually required volume.
According to the present invention, there is provided a tank rucksack for motorcycles comprising a padded base, and a removable rucksack part mountable on the base, the rucksack part having a foldable peripheral wall and means for adjustment of the receiving volume.
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a tank rucksack in a folded together configuration as a perspective view; Figure 2 is a perspective view of an expanded tank rucksack in a first modified configuration; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a tank rucksack further expanded to a second modified configuration; Figure 4 is an exploded view of the base of the tank rucksack; and Figure 5 is a fragmentary view of the cover of the tank rucksack in the hinged open configuration.
The illustrated tank rucksack 1 comprises a cover 3 which can be hinged open by the opening of a peripheral slide faster 2, a slide fastener 4 serving as an adjustment means for modifying the available volume, which co-operates with a foldable peripheral wall 5 and a base 7 separable by a further slide fastener 6.
The most essential part of the rucksack 1 is the part 8 separable from the base 7 of which the foldable peripheral wall 5 is adjustable by means of the slide fastener 4 which can be opened or closed. The first adjustment cover is illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing. The first and second adjustment stages become apparent from Figure 3 of the drawing, to which subsequent reference will be made. It is apparent that the slide fastener 4 is mounted with its commencement substantially in the centre of the peripheral wall 5. The slide fastener commencement is is indicated by the reference numeral 9 (Figure 3).
Basically a slide fastener consists of two rows of a plurality of small metal or plastics teeth disposed opposite one another, so-called teeth rows, and a wedge-shaped metal member (frog) in a slide, which can interengage the two rows of the fastener. Normally, the two rows of teeth of slide fasteners are arranged closely adjacent one another and parallel to one another. In the tank rucksack 1 the two rows of teeth 10 and 11 are arranged as a wedge-shape extending away from one another, until a first fold region 12 is established by the spacing of the teeth rows 10,11 away from one another. From this point on the two rows of teeth 10 and 11 extend around the periphery of the foldable peripheral wall 5 parallel to one another substantially up to the commencement of a parallel length of the fastener.
A closure movement of the slide of the slide fastening leads therefore to initial closure of the wedge-shaped zone of the teeth rows and subsequently of the parallel zone of the two teeth rows with folding of the intermediate folding zone of the peripheral wall. The tank rucksack then has the volume illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing.
The subsequent path of the teeth rows 10,11 involves again a wedge-shaped enlargement, which is indicated in Figure 2 of the drawing by the reference numeral 13, up to the fastening of a second folding zone 14. Atthis point it is again connected to a parallel peripheral arrangement of the teeth rows 10,11.
If the closure movement of the slide after reaching the first adjustment region is continued, folding of the second adjustment zone takes place and thus the volume of the tank rucksack is reduced to the size illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing. The two adjustment zones can be separately fixed by clip fasteners, which in the drawing are clearly shown by the externally mounted clips 15.
The removable rucksack part extends to the base 7, in which a central recess 16 is left, in which without damage to the tank a carrying handle 17 can be accommodated for the removable rucksack part.
Figure 4 of the drawing shows the cover 3 in the hinged open position, in which the internal volume of the tank rucksack can readily be filled in a simple manner. Atransparent card or map compartment 19 is provided on the cover 3.
Claims (7)
1. Tank rucksack for motorcycles comprising a padded base, and a removable rucksack part mountable on the base, the rucksack part having a foldable peripheral wall and means for adjustment of the receiving volume.
2. Tank rucksack according to claim 1, wherein the adjustment means includes a slide fastener, of which two rows of teeth are secured at the foldable peripheral wall at a spacing from one another including the desired adjustment zone.
3. Tank rucksack according to claim 2, wherein the commencement of the slide fastener is disposed centrally in the peripheral wall, the two rows of teeth are arranged in a wedge-shape extending away from one another up to a first fold zone which is fixed by the distance from one another of the teeth rows, thereafterthe two teeth rows extend parallel to one another around the periphery of the rucksack part until the commencement of a parallel length, a wedge-shaped enlargement being connected thereto and extending to a second fold zone to which again a peripheral parallel arrangement of the teeth rows is connected.
4. Tank rucksack according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the adjustment zones are separately securable by clip fasteners.
5. Tank rucksack according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the removable rucksack part extends to the base in which a central recess is provided for receiving a carrying handle of the removable rucksack part.
6. Tank rucksack according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the removable rucksack part has a cover hinged by means of a slide fastener, and wherein an external transparent pocket is provided on the cover.
7. Atank rucksack substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
