Coating fabrics in long lengths.-Machines for applying slow-drying coatings are provided with means whereby the coating is dried before reaching the take-up spool. The web 1 is coated on one side by apparatus A and is then passed successively through heating, vapour-condensing, and cooling compartments 4, 5, 17 in a casing 131, then coated on the other side by apparatus B, then passed successively through heating, vapour-condensing, and cooling compartments 41, 5, 171, then round rollers 81, 91, 101, 111, to a compartment 131 and finally to the take-up spool 71. The chamber 134 between the rollers 91 and 101 is situated beneath the main casing. Air is introduced to the compartment 131 by a pipe 141. If the fabric is to be coated on one side only the coating apparatus B, and the compartments 41, 171, and 131 are omitted.
